Newest Update 10/25 killed phone

So I updated my phone which had stock gingerbread (no root) to the newest OTA version and now the phone cannot access the "Settings" menu. I get a "Link program is no longer installed on your phone." Also i cant get to the "All setting menu from the notification bar." Not sure what to do, but I have already done a restart, and that didnt fix the issue.

If a battery/sim pull 2 minute drill doesn't work, and a factory reset doesn't work, you may want to flash one of the 605.5 RUUs after you root using Revolutionary. Other more ROM-knowledgeable folks can point you to the files. Don't know how else to recover this.

I updated to the first GB official update and went to check for new software and I keep getting 'Service Unavailable'. My data signal is on but not sure why it can't check for an update. But after reading this i'm not sure if I want the update now ha. But the update is supposedly got the HTC security issue fix as well

I had 2.11.605.3 and got the update to 2.11.605.5 just before 7:00pm Pacific time. It went very quickly and everything including the Voice Mail indicator seems fine.

So I googled the problem, and it seems like this is happening on a few DInc too, even when not updating software. It's just weird, like the settings app is completely gone. I guess I'll just have to root and rom. No point in a factory reset and staying stock. I think it is a weird case, and would still try to get the OTA. I think it was just an unfortunate event for me.

Gave up on the stock OTA. S-Off, rooted and running Killasense, has the 2.11.605.5 update with Imoseyon Kernel. Very fast Rom with a clockable kernel. Lot's of the bloat has been stripped out of it, this is perfect for someone looking for something close to stock, very, very fast without lot's of bloat. Keeping this one for a whle and I switch back from Banf, Cyanogen and Killasense. Choices are great.

I keep getting the same issue will try again tomorrow in case its the network

It will force a data wipe, but if all hope is lost, you could always try to do a "fresh" install of the OS...

I dont think it will let you unless you're rooted. It looks for a newer verson number when you try and do updates.

this is correct hboot will not let you do a fresh install because the os number has to be newer other wise it will just abort the update. you would need to root and then flash back to stock to do a fresh install the lastest ota

I'm getting this as well and its making me nervous. Should the upsurge come through will my phone not function right? I've had no problems except for the voicemail issue. I'm going to contact HTC and see what they recommend.

I did not get the other GB and my phone is stock. I looked at my phone this morning and something was downloading. So, I swiped the task bar and clicked on the download. A box comes up saying it's an update from Verizon. Great! Been waiting for that! Then I tap the back arrow to do what I was doing and the phone says I cancelled the update!!! WTFFFFF!!! Now I get the same "Service Unavailable" message when I check for an update. Pi$$ed me off!

Status says:

Name:2.11.605.5
Staus: User Rejected

etc...

2.11.605.5 downloaded successfully at 2:11am while I slept.

All seems to be work fine, even VM notification. No issues found today.

Yeah, I had the crossed fingers issue right after the update too. But luckily, it went away by itself.
