NexDock - If you like DeX

I've looked into that, and a couple different portable monitors as well. I haven't pulled the trigger on any of them yet, but I'm def interested in those.

I'm kinda looking at it as getting more out of my Note and it's only a bonus that it can be used for other purposes as well

They're definitely a cool idea. I'm torn on getting a standalone tablet, a Windows 10 2-in-1, a portable monitor, or NexDock. Can't really decide. I've never used Windows as my own computer, just for work. Used Mac since the late 90's for personal use. The iPad Pro looks nice with the Magic Keyboard, but no secondary Dex support. I like the idea of being able to use a portable monitor as a tablet on the cheap with Dex, and can add things like affordable bluetooth keyboard/mouse.

I'm really wishy washy on the whole thing at the moment.

They all have their pros/cons but for me personally, the NexDock Touch ticks enough boxes when combined with a Note.
I really liked what I have seen with the NexDock 2 that is out now so with the 14" touchscreen coming on the Touch, I justified it to myself since it was only 249 usd plus delivery.
Worst case scenario I can sell it again and hopefully not be to much out of pocket.

I have been following this for quite sometime. It will be more impressive if there is a intelligent way to dock the phone when connected. I had Motorola version earlier which worked with Atrix and quality was great but processor wasn't powerful enough. It had great design and docking station.

I had something similar to this from a decade ago with a Motorola phone dock that cost $200 at the time. It was a total waste of money for me. Barely used the thing, it was more a gimmick. The Motorola phone (forgot the model) was only so-so, and the docking station was a novelty and not very useful. But that was a decade ago, so I'm sure things must be better with today's technology. For myself, DEX works just fine for synching my Note 10+ to my various Windows laptops via a USB cable so I won't be getting the docking station for $250 for fear it will end up in my dinosaur closet shelf.

Yeah I read about the old Motorola one, it did seem quite a disaster.
There's been a fair few attempts at this type of thing and they seem to all have failed up until the NexDock 2
People seems to be very happy with it and it is getting good reviews so next generation with a touch screen should add a little more to it.
It obviously depends on your individual needs if this can work for you but I think it will in my case.

The Motorola Atrix. Had one also, and honestly, that is why I haven't gone the docking route with the newer phones.

There really is only two phone brands this will work with properly at the moment and that's Samsung and Huawei but since I'm using a Note 10 plus 5G and probably will end up with the 20 as well next, then I think the 289 usd (249+40 shipping) is worth it, it might not be perfect as a work/productivity tool but that's not what I'm getting it for, I'm going to look at it as a way of getting more out of the computer in my pocket (The Note)
I might even build one of those Raspberry PI things :-)
It is bought as a toy more than a tool and mainly for the experience.
I only have a Chromebook at the moment (Asus C434) so I'm thinking of just getting a 2nd hand/refurbished Windows mini PC as well for the odd time I need Windows for something, I'll get a good one for 100 quid anyway and it should work just fine with this NexDock as well.

Definitely let me know what you think about it when your get it. I'm interested, but still not sure.

I pre-ordered the Nexdock touch also. I have been using Dex with my S20 now and S10 before that, as my primary computing system for a year. Dex works very well for me. My only issue has been that Chrome no longer works properly with it and now use Samsung Internet which doesn't render as well sometimes. I have been using the HP X3 lapdock. That works well all except for the audio and initial connection can sometime be a pain. otherwise it works fine. I am looking forward to the Nexdock for trouble free connection and audio use. Samsung Dex works great for me for all my computer needs.

P.S.

I also use a Samsung Dex docking station at work for personal use, which works the best. I hope Nexdock works just as well.

It should work exactly the same if it's a DeX docking station connected directly to a monitor.

I sold my laptop and am happy with my Nexdock Touch. It doesn't do everything great, but it's better than doing everything on my Samsung phone. It has enough battery to charge the phone and run for hours without a wall plug. i'd like to have more control over font size and other settings, but I anticipate these upgrade in the future as this platform gets more attention. I need to get a printer setup for mobile use, so once I have that, i'll be close enough to my goal for mobility.

Look into pepper jobs xtend touch 15.6 display... wow! Received for the holidays and you won't need anything as the usb-c cable packaged with it worked and turned on Dex automatically (if you have HDMI selected in phone settings).
Really cool and I'm moving away from Mac computers (since '86) using the phone more and with this set up: am shifting over to different apps and all is good. Check it on Amazon. Good luck! ✌

My shipping cost was $39. I pre-ordered when it was $269. What were your shipping costs?

I've had a NexDock 2 for a year now and it is definitely useful. I played about with it with the Note 10+ for a while when I first got it but DeX was still a little rough around the edges then. May have another look.

The advantage of the NexDock is that is has so many other uses. I have used it to get Rasberry Pi projects to the stage where it is network attached and VNC connection is available. A while ago my Plex server lost the ability to RDP (Turns out BitDefender was blocking it) so I used the NexDock as a KVM to troubleshoot and rectify the problem
