So if you live in the u.s and have a nexus 4 then you'll know that the nexus 4 has a semi working lte chip. But it only works in canada because they use the band 4 conncection or something. Will Austin texas get band with 4? i know college station does so is it a new technology coming to at@t or an old one they are leaving behind?

Tmobile's LTE network uses Band 4, so the N4 will be able to use their LTE network. Truth be told, I get better HSPA+ download speeds (a bit less up) about 10 miles outside of center city Philly than I did on Verizon's LTE network (lte gnex and sgs3). Crazy, but true.

Of course, LTE is not "officially" supported on the N4, but it does work.

Since it's not cleared for it, as in by the FCC, I am not sure how or if it can be retroactively approved on phones already sold... so as ConTejas says, it may work but its hard to say if it will officially be able to.

I also agree that HSPA+ on Tmo is just as good as Verizon's LTE for my usage.. if you are in a well covered area of course.. and none of that awful 4G battery drain :)

I'm in the DC/Baltimore area and I flashed back the old radio and set it up to use LTE but I had no signal. I can't confirm there is TMO LTE here yet though. I'm near Annapolis and typically we fall under the Baltimore pop but who knows.
Even though LTE will work on the phone I thought it was still missing stuff to make it work reliably.

Largely I agree, coming from VZW LTE I really don't miss the slight speed increase with their LTE. I would see on average of 25Mbps in this area on VZW but I consistently get 18Mbps with TMO HSPA+ so it's really pretty much the same except for the up speeds and the ping times. And for the price difference it's easy to stop caring about that :)

The only limitation or caveats I'm aware of is that you'll have to dial *#*#4636#*#* and select a network including LTE each time you reboot. Very minor inconvenience if you want/need the speed. I only ever reboot when I'm flashing anyway.I've read a good bit and people have been doing it long enough now without issue (expect expected battery drain...but just the usual for an lte device). This one site said they had an issue with Google Now, but that seems isolated. I could see myself doing it one or twice just to have it and never doing it again. HSPA+ has been that good for me and my battery life is amazing.
