Nexus 4 Camera Flash stopped working

When I go to take a picture the option to use the flash seems greyed out or non responding. I have recently updated to 4.2.2 but dont know if this is just a coincidence or not. Any help or sugeestions greatfully received. I have done multiple power off's but to no avail.

Are you in HDR mode? Uncheck HDR and it should be back

That worked. I thought HDR was just to give an alternative shot so why would it switch the flash off
