Hi
I Downloaded Android file transfer (MAC Application). Everytime I plug in my Nexus 4 via usb and open File Transfer, it opens for about a second then crashes.
Ive tried redownloading the app, restarting my mac, using a different usb port, but nothing works.
Im runninng OSX 10.5.8, which is supposedly compatible. I'm on a power mac G5, not an intel machine. Thats the only thing I can think might be wrong.
The app doesnt say anything about intel macs only though so Im confused

Anyone have this happen to them? Did you get it working?
Thanks in advance
matt

Well, it's true you're running fairly dated hardware. That being said, as long as the app was compiled as a Universal Binary, then it should work equally well either in the PPC or the x86 environments. It's been working fine for me on my MBP when booted into Lion.

Thanks for the reply

I found another site offering the download that does say its universal Binary. Downloaded it again from that web site but still it still crashes
when I open it. Im totally out of ideas. Really want to put some music on my phone, but looks like I cant

Just use Airdroid. It's an app that lets you wirelessly connect your Android device to a computer just by opening a website on the computer and typing in the code on the app on your phone. I use it a lot and it's really convenient.

make sure that your phone is on and unlocked when you plug it in.

I am having a similar problem, I just got my nexus 4 and when I try to plug it into my Mac and running Android File Transfer it keeps telling me " No Android device found" I tried with MTP mode and with PTP mode, I also turned on the debugging mode, and it still doesn't work. I have a nexus 7 and when I plug this one to my Mac it works perfectly and I can transfer files without any problem, has anyone had a similar problem, or can anyone help me please?

The problem is not specific to the Nexus 4. I had the exact same issues with my old Galaxy Nexus. The Android File Transfer application makes iTunes on Windows look like coding heaven. It's that bad. It will crash, it will freeze, it will mess up, but if you want to use the Nexus with the Mac you'll just keep trying.

Eventually, it would stay open and work. However, that would take multiple tries. I found that unplugging the cable from the laptop/desktop and then reconnecting it often helped more than anything else. Also, try to break down large file transfers in to smaller parts any time that you can. That also helped; trying to transfer more than a few GBs of data would result in a crash.

I havent been able to connect it at all, it only charges but there is no way of connecting the Nexus 4 to my Mac, I also tried with another computer and the same story. Maybe some settings ont he Nexus 4 ? or could it be a hardware problem?
