Nexus 4 not Booting up, Red LED on Charge

A couple of days ago, I got a little bit of water in the headphone jack on my Nexus 4. The phone seemed to be working fine for a while, until (about 30 minutes later) the device froze while opening a folder and crashed. I was then completely unable to turn it back on. A couple of hours later, after trying desperately to get the device to power up, I decided to disassemble it to see if it was caused by water damage. I found a couple of drops worth of water inside, but none of it had appeared to get anywhere near the motherboard. One of the things I tried after reading in to this some more was holding down power and volume down, then plugging the device in. What I got then was a red LED that flashed every 15 seconds or so. From what I'd read, this appeared to be some kind of battery fault, and so I ordered a replacement. I left my device in a relatively warm room for the two days or so before the battery arrived to make sure it had completely dried out. So, today the replacement battery has arrived, but after installing it I still get the same red LED. It's also probably worth noting that I get the same LED with no battery installed. If anyone who knows more about this could give me some suggestions as to what to do now, it would be greatly appreciated - I currently cannot afford a new phone, and would really prefer not to have to go back to my original Blackberry Pearl...

I would suggest you set it to charge... then leave it completely alone. Don't press buttons, don't try to go into recovery, nothing.

My N7 (2012) did this before, and leaving it charging for about an hour or so made the battery-charge screen light up. I proceeded to leave it alone for a few hours after that and then everything was fine (powering it on when the battery charge screen first lit up would boot it, then it would simply turn off as though I'd pulled the battery).

If possible, set it to charge before you go to sleep and leave it alone until morning. From your description, it sounds like you never really let it sit long enough to charge, and instead fiddled with it, trying in vain to get it to power up. I said this in an earlier post, but it seems like Nexus devices do a trickle charge if the battery's too low (or they think it's too low), and this trickle charge can take an hour just to get to 15% on a device that's powered off.

I tried this last night to no avail. I still get the same orange-red led if I try to power it up while plugged in, and nothing if it is unplugged. It would also seem odd to me that I was shipped a battery with less charge than is required to boot up a phone, but it's still a possibility. However, when I plug it in my charger gives off the characteristic coil whine of when a device is fully charged. It's hard to say, but I suspect what's going on here is different to those threads. Any other thoughts? I'm starting to run out of hope.

Note: My previous battery was definitely faulty - checking back on it now, it's giving off a slight odour that is more than a little worrying.
