Nexus 4 Pre-Order

If you're in the US, there's absolutely no reason to ever consider ordering anywhere but straight from the Google Play Store (or now in T-Mobile B&M's). Ordering a gray market import doesn't offer any sort of warranty in the US. We dealt with this with the GNex and a lot of people got burned buying from outside of the U.S. then trying to get warranty work done, no one understood how the warranties are issued.

Really, no reason to pre-order. Buy it when its available Nov. 13 :) . The Play Store is a dream scenario for unlocked phone buyers in the U.S., take advantage!

Thanks for the insight brother, I wasn't aware that Expansys was shady.

Well let's not confuse things. Expansys itself isn't shady at all. They offer a great service to people around the world that want to buy devices not offered directly in their country. Its great having importers like them working. I bought my GSM Galaxy Nexus from an importer because they had yet to go on sale in the U.S. when I wanted it and that worked out great for me.

My entire point was that if you buy from outside of the country, regardless of the retailer, you shouldn't expect the device to come with a warranty (same applies if you were on vacation to the UK and buy a phone then bring it back). That's not the fault of Expansys (or any other importer), that's the fault of the manufacturer not offering the warranty when its sold gray market to another country. Some importers try to help by being a middle man and doing the exchange for you, but its not anywhere near guaranteed and is most definitely not hassle-free.

That's why I recommend that you always choose to buy from the Play Store (or at a B&M establishment) when possible, so you can preserve your warranty/service. There's just no reason to deal with an importer when you can buy it directly from Google for the exact same price (or less). $299/$349 is an amazing deal. Don't try to cheap out on them for a $20 savings and lose your warranty in the process.

Just an FYI!

I'm a bit hesitant to get the phone from the Play Store.

I ordered the Nexus 7 immediately when it was available on the Play Store after the Google I/O 2012 announcement and I got ****ed over with an extremely long shipping delay. A friend of mine, who ordered one a week after me, got his N7 before I got mine.

On top of that, I had to pay $300 AUD + $20 shipping (total $320 AUD), whereas retail stores only charged $300, got them in stock and selling before I got mine sent to me and also gave the $25 Google Play credit.

Yeah, I was seriously pretty pissed off with how bad the whole situation was handled. What was the reason for me to order on the Play Store again? So I pay more, and get it later than retail stores?

I imagine Google learned some lessons from the Nexus 7 release. I expect they'll be a bit better organized this time around, but they're still very new to the business of shipping and supporting consumer hardware. It could go either way.

I went through the same thing. It looks like they are going to just start selling on November13 and have no preorders. I will probably still order from the play store if they do that. I just hope they can anticipate demand and have enough in stock. I think the Nexus 10 will be in high demand.

I went through the same thing. Luckily I still recieved my Nexus 7 wih the first batch of shipments from play store. I am pretty sure google learned a leson though and thats why pre-orders were not set for yesterday.

I agree with Andrew. However, the warranty really stinks anyway. It's not like having an iPhone and being able to walk into an Apple Store and get your phone looked at on the spot. You have to send your phone into LG, they look at and 'fix it' (basically do nothing and restore stock software) and you get the phone back in 5 day turn around time.

Expansys is a really good company. Usually free shipping. HOWEVER, in this instance, I don't see HOW they could get the phone BEFORE you would. Google is only offering it through the Play Store.

There really is no reason to get it from TMobile directly, play store or bust, buying from TMo the device is almost $600 after down payment and monthly payments.

I don't live in the us so I can't buy from Google Play Store, will it be available anywhere else, like Amazon US?

I''ll be ordering through the Play Store when the phone goes on sale. Things went smoothly when I ordered the Nexus 7 back in early July. I know some people had problems, but I think Google is going to do a better job with the Nexus 4 launch.

Where do you live? The Play Store is selling outside the U.S. on launch day to several countries, and to even more countries at B&M retail partners:

"It will be available to purchase in both an 8GB version and a 16GB version on Google Play™ starting November 13 in the US, UK, Canada, Germany, France, Spain and Australia. Offline availability in Europe, Central/South Americas, Asia, CIS and the Middle East will begin from the end of November."

+1

I think that's why we can't order now. I fully expect the ordering on the 13th to have immediate stock and fulfillment.
