I am trying to connect nexus 4 to my HP monitor with the slim port adapter for nexus 4 and a HDMI cable (dynex). The video works just fine but the audio is not working. Anyone experienced the same issue?

You sure your monitor converts HDMI audio signal? Most monitors do not and just have a separate audio line in if they have speakers at all. Try it on your TV to see if it works.

Oh, I have a HP - 23" Flat-Panel LED HD Monitor, and I am not sure if it converts HDMI audio signal. I do not find any information online. How can I find out if it does/does not?
And, if I connect external speakers to the monitor would that work? I am trying to get the audio working with the nexus 4 and a monitor.

The specs for the monitor says " Speakers Included No
Inputs DVI, VGA Jacks that accept incoming sound or video signals from other devices, such as car stereo systems, MP3 players and camcorders."

It says "Speakers Included" "No"

The other gibberish about car stereos is not appropriate for this monitor. It is BestBuy's site after all. Try looking at the actual HP site. A quick Google search for "HP 2311x specs" get's you there in the first link. It doesn't mention anything about speakers.
