Hi,

Recently I dont know what happened but my Nexus 4 Phone volume is very low when someone calls me.
If I put it on speaker, the voice is loud and clear.
But If I am not on speaker, the volume is very low.
How can I fix it?

I went to Setting => Device => Sound => Volumes and moved the bar to max for all 3 (Music, ringtones and alarms)
Still its low.

can anyone help me how to increase the volume? It sucks and I am having a hard time hearing the other person during a call.

Thanks.

I have a Nexus 4, as well. Does the problem persist when you also use headphones with a mic? When I had this problem for some reason, when I plugged in my headphones the volume bar readjusted to a lower setting on the bar, where I was then able to increase the calls volume.

My volume stays on what i left it last in the phone call (I leave it on low as my misses voice is a bit loud) and adjust it accordingly through the rocker.
But I presume even with turning up during the call its still low for you guys?

The volume is high in my phone ..
I use PA .. maybe it's because of that ?

I dont use ear phones for answering calls.

The volume rocker is at max when answering calls. The voice is very low.
I am on the default software (OS) which came when I bought the Google Nexus 4.
I dont know how to play with ROMS.

Primary purpose of using a phone is defeated. Very upset with this device.
rest all is working fine and great.

btw: I am on T-mobile Prepaid.

Just to be clear, the volume level before you answer the call only controls ring loudness. In call volume can only be set during the call. If you have it maxed out and volume is still very low, then I would suspect you have a hardware failure with the front speaker and need to rma it.

I know smashing hardware usually fixes things. Least with my megaphone while coaching. I don't recommend this for mobiles though

PA = Paranoid Android ROM...

If you are not comfortable flashing, try the franco.Kernel Updater App in Play Store. It will auto-flash the franco.Kernel for you. There are volume controls in there. I increased my Headphones Volume Boost and my Headset Gain... I now have plenty of volume in-call using the earpiece on the phone or when listening to music over headphones via the jack.... I don't have to turn either volume all the way up anymore.

The paid app is worth the cost. There are save/restore options in there as well...

The Nexus 4 has an interesting DAC (the thing that transforms your music from digital content to analog sound). The warning about "Unsafe Volume Levels" only appears, based on my observations, when using a pair of headphones with an impedance lower than 18Ω. If all that didn't make sense, don't bother, all you need is this app , it works wonderfully, just turn up the media volume and it'll prompt you to enable the full N4 output. This works great with my 32Ω headphones.

This doesn't require rooting, or flashing custom kernels or anything else unnecessarily complicated.

Hi All...

I just got my nexus 4 yesterday with stock android 4.2.2

It is not rooted

The in call speaker volume is very very low...

Also, the ring tone volume is very low..

Other than that I love my phone..

Please help..

I have the same problem.... What I do is during a call,I lower all vol settings in the main vol controls then lower phone speaker vol with the rocker, then raise it up and the vol goes up. Works for me. I believe the settings change when you plug your head phones in. Have to do again.

I too am having problems hearing my Nexus 4 - UNLESS I plug in ear buds and then am able to actually RAISE the Volume like I'd like to be able to do w/o having to plug in ear phones - - - I have tried quite a few Volume/Equalizer/Amp type APPS to NO Avail..........from all me reviewing it seems the only one that REALLY worked was "VOLUME +" but
it is NOT compatible any longer with Jelly Bean.............PLEASE help/advise IF Possible......and

THANKS michael

Hi i Brought Nexus4 recently ,
Faced the same problem, reason is i tried to install some call recording software which never worked.
the sideeffect of that was 50% reduction in call volume, Hard Reset phone after uninstalling all such software which can access sound stream during call.
Worked like charm now i can hear pin drop at the other end :) :D

The notification volume on the Nexus 4 is low. I can have the phone sitting right beside me on my desk, and often I will not hear incoming texts.

Hello guys,

When I first got my nexus 4, the earpiece volume was awesome!

So then I started having the same problem with the low earpiece volume a few weeks ago... I noticed that it happened right after I installed an app (Line)

so I uninstalled the app, restarted my phone and now my earpiece volume is loud again! (so loud I have to turn it down a little bit)

hope this helps!
