Nexus 5: Screen protector needed?

Re: Screen protector needed?

Not a one size fits all question. Some people are very careless with expensive phones. I see beat up and scratched devices being used all the time. Got my girlfriends iPhone screen replaced and she cracked it again within two weeks....smh. If you routinely toss your phone into a pocket full of loose change, then yes, you are going to need a screen protector. Personally, I have never had a scratch on any phone I've used in over 20 years and I have never used a screen protecter. The advent of large, smartphones only made me be more careful, keeping mine in one of those hard shell, two piece cases. When it's time to sell one for a new toy, I list it as being in perfect condition. Currently using an HTC One sans screen protector and will do the same with the N7 when it arrives.

Re: Screen protector needed?

They peel off eventually but while they're on you have the wonderful feeling of knowing you have a virgin screen under there without ever having been covered with oil, fingerprints, germs and residue.

The problem with screen protectors is I wouldn't be able to get one on without some dust or fingerprint under it.

I agree.

Re: Screen protector needed?

I used a screen protector on all of my phones until my T-Mobile S3. I used it for a solid year without a screen protector and loved it. I never had a scratch and was so proud of how i'd taken care of it. Then my wife was using it in the car and helping me search for an address so we could get somewhere in an unfamiliar city, and she dropped it down between the seat and the center console. After that I had 3 diagonal LIGHT scratches on it. It killed me. Wished i'd had a screen protector. However, I ONLY get the expensive protectors that aren't as cloudy and thick as the cheap crap protectors that come in a set of 3 for $10

Re: Screen protector needed?

Get a glass screen protector. Problem solved.

I just installed a Nillkin tempered glass screen protector (cost around $16 on eBay with free shipping) and couldn't be happier.

Re: Screen protector needed?

I have a SPIGEN Slim Armor Air Cushioned Protective Case that protects my phone & screen that has a 1.5mm lip that protects the Gorilla Glass 3 from touching most surfaces. Gorilla Glass 3 isn't scratched by keys, coins or even knife points. Some people claim that fine grains of sand under 3.5 pounds of pressure against the screen will scratch Gorilla Glass 3. No worries there. My phone is in a case but the screen goes naked and I have never scratched any glass before so this Gorilla Glass 3 is enough protection. I like the true colors on the screen and don't want a extra piece of film covering it.

yep,I guess you are referring to my post then. If you have any problem with my calculation (clearly demonstrated in that post), let us know, and let us know your own analysis, rather than just an "empty guarantee of never scratch", even though you will likely take no responsibility when it actually happens.

Screen protectors, why not? I don't even feel there IS a screen protector on my smart phone when it was pasted perfectly.sony 1.jpgsony 2.jpg

:p

You can feel it no matter how good it is on and whichever one you use.... Beyond that fact they are pointless really. Just don't have your phone near keys or near sand, diamonds or anything a 7 or higher on the Richter scale

Always been wary of plastic screen protectors. They show grim easily and just have an unusual feel. But I moved to a Cruzerlite Truglass protector and absolutely love the feel. Totally confident in its protection as well.

Ive always used a screen protector on my phone...being in my pocket and all. I didn't put one on my Nexus 7 and like it so much better.

With the Nexus 5 having gorilla glass 3, do you think its necessary to get a screen protector for it or no? What about for a woman who throws it randomly in her purse?

Posted this here in another thread:
have always used a screen protector, some of my reasons are:
1.Anti - fingerprint screen protectors are made from an lipophobic coating that repels skin oils and helps to provide resistance to the appearance and attachment of fingerprints and smudges, making prints on the screen almost invisible from all angles. With a fingerprint resistant screen protector, cell phone users can keep their screens looking clean and brand new at all times without having to constantly clean them.
2.Screen Protectors Can Repel Dirt, Surfaces, like cell phone screens, that are routinely subjected to touch can commonly become stained with fingerprints, skin oil, sweat, and grime after heavy use. Once the surface is contaminated, the stains can be difficult to remove without the use of harsh cleaning products. By using a dirt-repellent luster screen protector to prevent all kinds of dirt and contaminants, safety issues that obscure and inhibit optical performance can be kept at a minimum.
3.Anti - glare screen protectors cut down on the glare on a cell phone's LCD screen by using a matte finishing coat and diffusion means to reduce the consistency of reflected images, breaking up the reflected light off the screen?s surface. This ultimately allows a cell phone user?s eyes to strain less (and thus become less tired) from having to squint due to the glare coming from their device. Anti-glare protectors also improve screen visibility by cutting reflections and glare from bright light.

Have never used a screen protector, have never had a scratch. The N5 is very smudge resistant, much more than my last phone and my N7 2013.

I use screen protectors on all my phones. I always get them for a good price on Amazon and they're always worth it to me. Although, I don't use any case but the screen is more important...scratches on a screen bug the hell out of me.

Well I got my Nexus 5 last Friday and I already ruined 2 screen protectors. I try to put them on in the shower but dust always gets on then every time. I even sent back the glass screen protector. Ruined it by dust and no matter how many times I apply it there was always two small bubbles.

Have the same case and the screen is still flawless

Not worth it. I ruined 5 screen protectors today wasted 3 hours and I scared my old Grandma because I went crazy.
