AC Question

Hi there, first of all, I already google a lot on the subject, including in here.

But either I find post too old or recent post with a solution that doesn't work for me.

Recently my Nexus 5 got stuck on the 'google' splash screen and I was only able to get it back with 'adb sideload <hammerhead...>'

It happened again yesterday...
Trying to clear /cache on the recovery simply fails to mount /cache every single time.

After following far too many instructions to remember even where I found them, I cannot get into the recovery any more.

If trying to boot into recovery it will simply show an android with the chest open and some octagon symbol moving. (No, it's not the screen where you press power + vol up.) Much like if I try to power the phone without trying to go into the fastboot.
And the phone will stay there for hours, over 5!

Also, trying the Nexus Root Toolkit fails.
The first restart, that should bring back to fastboot screen, goes into normal boot.
Then it stucks on erasing cache.

With everything else failing, I resort to this guide: (it seems I can't post a link, even to a page on Android Forums itself)

Where it says to erase some partitions (cache, system, recovery and boot).
- Erasing Cache, it gives the message: 'did you mean fastboot format this ext4 partition?' but it concludes with OKAY (It is the only partition with said message)
- Boot, Recovery and System erase with Okay.

Following the steps, I should do a fastboot flash:
- boatload (which fails to write)
- radio (okay)
- boot (failed! remote: flash write failure)
- recovery (okay)
- cache... and it is where I'm stuck again

it is on 'erasing cache'.

I'm pretty sure it will stay like that for days if I left it, as in every other time it came to erasing cache, I left it for hours without any progress..

The big question is, is that still anything to be done? Or I can pretty much give up on the phone.

(Also: The phone is unlocked. Tried different usb cables and ports. Whenever I look for the long time on erasing Cache, answers come back from 10 minutes, 15, half an hour to one hour maximum, but I left it erasing far longer than all of them combined)

It sounds as if you have to completely reflash the ROM. I hope you have everything backed up (you always should have - this isn't the only way you can lose everything on the phone - a truck riding over it will do it too).

Back up isn't an issue here, the truck riding over might be - or it could be a solution because I'm out of ideas.

Now you mentioned complete reflash the rom. How is it different thatn what I've be trying with adb and fastboot commands?
