Hi
I'm facing this weird issue where when i receive or make a call, the screen with the hangout Button and the caller photo on black background etc doesnt exist... I am brought back to homescreen while the call is still going on.... The call screen is notre present either in the task manager... And if i push the "phone" button i am back tout normal dialer first screen... Still with the call going on.. Any idea?

Is the call in the notification shade when that happens? I'm thinking you are accidentally returning home or to another app while in call.

Hi
no, nothing like that, it's very weird...
i'll try and explain best :
I receive or pass a call. then, instead of going to the "in call" screen with the big red "hang up" button, i'm back to the home screen...
now this can happen, if i press the home button, but i don't. And if that was that, then first i would have the small "phone" logo in the upper left notification telling me i'm currently in call, and the "in call" screen would be accessible from the task manager, however the task manager displays absolutely nothing.... just like i wasn't making any call at all, except i can hear the person on the other side in my speaker.
Then i click on the big blue phone logo to get to the dialer screen, but i then get a screen which i never had before, with a black transparent background, proposing me to either use the default keyboard (if i click it i get the keyboard), either to "return to current call", and when i click it, i'm back to the homescreen... so the only way to hang up is to shut the phone down...

it's happened to me twice yesterday, but never before....

I'm having the same problem with my 5 32gig model. Once I enter a call and the screen shuts off when the phone is brought up to my ear I cannot get back to the call in progress at all. The dialer just doesn't work and kicks me back to the home screen. The best way to call people now is to use my bluetooth since that's the only way I can end a call on my end since the dialer is messing up. Quite possibly the worst bug to have in a phone....

Do either of you have a screen protector which is covering the proximity sensor (top right corner of screen)?

Has either of you used Tasker or similar app to create a task which interrupts normal processing during phone calls?

no screen protector at te moment of the issue (i have one now, but anyway it has the 3 holes in it for prox, speaker and camera).
while for tasker, nop, almost nothing on my N5

Re: Nexus 5: weird dialer issue... im facing the same problem.

at 1st i thogiht it was because of true caller / contacts+ apps.. but i uninstalled them n the problem does not go away. neither does switching off the google caller ID help. :( its just so frustrating when you want hang up on a call but there is no way you can do that because there is no dialer screen.:(:'(

Hi,
I am facing the same issue. Cleaning the cache and app data does not wok.
Please let me know if anyone resolved this problem, its just so annoying.

I've had to use another dialer for over a month. The stock Google Dialer crashes 100% of the time on launch. I have no idea how to fix.

I've having the same issue the last few week on my white 32GB Nexus 5. Phone dialer just disappears, even from the notification pane, with no way to end the call other than shutting down. If I am in my car I can end the call with my vehicle controls via Bluetooth. This is a viscious bug. Has anyone posted or seen this on the Google offixcial support forum?
