The Nexus 6P and 5X are compatible with major carriers in the U.S. — here are the full radio band listings | Android Central

"None of the U.S. carriers have voiced official support for the phones (nor are they selling them), and while that isn't an issue for the likes of T-Mobile, AT&T or their prepaid subsidiaries (just pop in your SIM and go), it can theoretically cause issues with Verizon and Sprint because both need to have the phone's IMEI in their database to work properly."

What's IMEI?

Will it take cooperation from Sprint to all this phone to work on Sprint's network?

I suspect that if you have an already activated SIM on Sprint (generally meaning you already have an LTE capable Sprint phone) that fits the 5X it should work--it has the radios. If not, I believe the phone would need to get activated by Sprint with a Sprint SIM installed.

That said, Sprint has not traditionally been nearly as picky in this area as Verizon (the other major US CDMA legacy carrier) and since the phone is part of Project Fi it would certainly appear Sprint "knows" about the phone.

Sprint does have a page up on the Moto X Pure Edition already on their support site so my guess is there won't be a problem (would seem to be little downside for Sprint who needs as many customers as they can get/keep). But I might hold off on buying until you see actual confirmation that it works on a pure Sprint account (not just as part of Project Fi) if that's where you need the phone to work.

I received my Nexus 5X 32GB yesterday (ordered 09/29). I tried to activate it online with Sprint. They didn't recognize the phone ID. Took it to the full service Sprint store. They said the SIM from my Nexus 6 would not work. They didn't have the SIM that their system said my phone required. The SIM wasn't in their system either. They said they would have to make some calls and hopefully they would have the SIM in a couple of days. They seemed confident that they will be able to activate it.

Has anyone else been able to activate their Nexus 5X on Sprint? If so, did they provide a new SIM or from what phone did you get the SIM?

Sprint corporate stores carry SIMs, but we don't deal with them more than a few times a month. Before receiving your phone, call sprint customer care and request the SIM you need. You'll receive it free within a few days.

I was at a Sprint corporate store. I took your advice and called customer care tonight. They are sending me a Nexus SIM but it doesn't specifically say it is for the 5X so she wasn't sure if it would work or not. They are also sending me the SIM that the store said I needed. (CZ2144LWC)

Just to let everyone know I went to the Sprint Corp store that has a service center in it today. I had already called and talked to a tech about if they had the proper sim on the phone. They had "plenty" he said. In any case got the sim installed and it took them about 10min to get the activation right but it is now working just fine. There is detailed info at s4gru if you want the part numbers. You can also get a sim from Best buy it would seem. They had already done one 5x at this store and the sales person seem pretty impressed with the 5x.

I have copied in the sim info from that site below:

"Sprint (corporate store with repair center or international support online chat):

Part: SIMGLW446C
SKU: CZ2144LWC
UPC: 019962040146

Best Buy Mobile:
Part: SPRINT HTC M9/MOTO X PURE SIM
SKU: SIMLTGSM4FF
UPC: 7000116"

Hello All,

I activated my wife's 5x on Sprint tonight. I used the sim card for the HTC One M9/Moto Pure. Part number SIMGLW446C. I purchased it from Best Buy Mobile for $10. My local Sprint store did not have this SIM.

I used the Sprint online activation site to complete the process. First you need to log into your account. It will then give you the option to select the phone you are replacing if you have more than one set on the account. Next you need to enter the IMEI omitting the last digit. The IMEI will be 14 digits long with the last number omitted. You enter the IMEI twice and click check code. Then you enter the UICC ID twice and click code. You then have to choose a data transfer option then click continue. You will them be asked about changing your plan. After you decide about your plan you will be given the option to activate. After you select activate you need to turn off both phones and then turn back on the new phone. I had to turn off ghostery in my browser to get the sprint site to work correctly.

Save getting the SIM card the process is pretty painless.

I have been up with sprint several days. Tried to activate online but wouldn't let me transfer SIM from Note4. Called customer care, they told me they could send or I could go into store but had to have repair facility. Went there and it took about 15 min for them to find it (I was first 5x they had seen). They gave me SIM and went home and activated. Pretty painless and seems to be faster/stronger service then I had with the Note4

I have had a very different experience... I am now phone less for 4-5 days. My 5x 32gb returned with an error when I called to activate it. The rep told me that it was incompatible but that this didn't mean it was not possible to activate the phone on Sprint. He asked me for the MEID and the Wifi Mac address... He then stated that he would have to escalate to a supervisor... And that my phone would be ready to activate in 4-5 days... I'm trying to figure out how my 5x is different from all of yours...
