I've gone to using an app (Alarm Clock Plus https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ils?id=com.vp.alarmClockPlusV2&token=PKFkza5I), and can set it to override the system alarm volume, so I make sure that silent modes, etc, don't cause my alarms not to work.
