Nexus 6 early camera samples

Those samples look awful, but the compositions/lighting are awful, too. To condemn the camera on the Nexus, I'd need to see the same shots from other phones.

I really don't expect much out of this camera since it's the moto x camera + OIS. OIS doesn't help much. Prepare for disappointment again.

At least the battery will probably be better.

Those don't look very promising to me. And I am far from a camera user. But at this price point, it better deliver on all points, especially camera. There should be no excuses for it being poor on a premium device.

It is not the same, it is a newer sensor. Google it.

Are those pictures the best in the world? Absolutely not. But to me, and I'm psycho about my cameras, they don't look bad. I've gotten some beautiful shots with my Nexus 5. I've gotten some awful shots on my wife's S5. If I can get something that I can share, and print the occasional photo of, then I'm good. The number one thing to me is speed. Opening the Nexus 5 camera and focusing on a shot is slow. If this is much faster, then I'm all good.

Yeah it's actually a top of the line sensor/camera......... But the software plays a big key....... I've always felt my Nexus 5 Camera does enough for what I need it to do.... If I am going to an event I KNOW I want great pictures I have a digital SLR.... but on the go photo's the Nexus 5 has been more than enough.....

Hopefully Google makes a lot of adjustments to the software and it's a lot better.... some of these test shots were okay and the one with the kid I thought was horrible....

Let's not forget that Android L allows 3rd party apps more control of the camera hardware. So if it's a decent sensor this could potentially help once apps start becoming compatable

Correct. The camera h/w is top of the line - where Android falls down is in the post processing s/w. This is where Apple , Samsung and others have invested (ie paid $) heavily and it shows. I think we will see some major updates in this area which will make the 6 and even the 5 produce much better quality photos.

Also with Android L you now have the option to capture raw images. You could see new camera apps available that take this raw image, apply the best in post processing and produce great results. You might have to pay a couple of bucks/euros but it will be another option.

Someone on XDA said that wasn't actually a N6. I can only hope so. This phone better have a decent camera.

Wrong. The Moto X 2014 use the Exmor IMX135. The Nexus 6 use IMX214. I have experience with both of these sensors. The Moto X use Motorola software for processing, the Nexus 6 use Google software, there is a new camera API for Android L. All clues point to a better looking camera than the current Moto X, I'm not claiming it will be amazing, but better.

These images are not trustworthy. They are compressed and have no tag information. I can't make any judgement from them.

Not all Android news site are trustworthy.

Don't worry the end result will be the same as all nexus cameras. Severe disappointment. Again, I hope I'm wrong but obviously Google struggles with camera software.

I agree. nexus and moto devices haven't had the best history in the camera department. Still waiting for google to back up that claim of making a great camera on a nexus device they said was going to happen a year or two ago and still nothing.

One+ also has the IMX214 and its camera isn't really that great. Nexus 6 has OIS in addition but that doesn't affect PQ.

I feel the same. I just need speed and a reliably OK camera. Honestly if I could get the same quality of HDR nexus 5 shots with better speed and more reliable focus I'd be happy.

I get pretty amazing results with it. For low light situation, I can control the ISO and shutter speed which eliminate noises.
