Nexus 6 Headphone Issues (when plugged in)

Need some help! Audio playback, both mp3 & video, has been just fine but just recently, audio would stop and the playback would stop/start as soon as I plug in headphones.

I tested couple of headphones with the same result so it's not a headphone issue. Anyone having the same problems? I rebooted but short of doing a full reset as I don't want to erase my phone's data (don't have the time to back it all up).

Thanks in advance for any advice on the matter.

Check in your music player settings to see if it is set to start up on plugging a headphone.

That's the only reason I see for this.

No it's not an app setting issue. I tried other audio/video apps and same problem. Everything was working ok before so assume it's a recent update issue?

I have this issue. Just started yesterday.

I only tried playing a YouTube video on speaker, and then when I plug in my earphones the video pauses for a second and the sound switches to the earphones.

Are you saying the sound stays muted for you?
