Nexus 6: Price

The Nexus 6 looks beastly with its 5.9inch 2K screen and Snapdragon 805 processor clocked at 2.3GhZ - 2.7GhZ. But I worry about the price, how can they pack this into a $350 phone? They can't I don't think! Unless they cut edges with the camera and hardware I can't see it being less than a brand new flagship from Samsung or Apple. I think this will lose the Nexus cheap factor. I understand they packed beastly specs into the Nexus5 for this price however 2k and 5.9 inch will cost a lot more. Mind you if OnePlus release the OnePlusOne for that price the Nexus is in trouble. Hard one for Google. What's your thoughts?

The main point to consider is that Google doesn't go through the same cost analysis as Apple, Samsung, or anyone else. They have a completely different goal when they sell a Nexus device. They can price them however they want, without worrying about profits.

Also, I don't know how you can ignore the price of the Nexus 5. It had top notch specs, and it cost half the price of other flagships. People were also saying the 5 couldn't be cheap like the 4 (and, in fairness, it was slightly more expensive). A higher resolution screen will cost them more, but not much. And look at the screen on the Nexus 7 from a year ago. It's 1920 x 1200 and 7 inches, and the device sells for $200.

Google could careless about Oneplus.... Oneplus has already said they sell their device at cost, Plus they are still "Invite" only and not exactly a company I would put a ton of hard core faith in (back in like June I would have gladly preordered and given them my money)........

A qHD 5.9 inch panel doesn't cost that much more than you'd think... Yes more but not dramatically more... I found the 5.5 inch qHD panel in the LG G3 cost $120 retail..... Buying as the MFG in Bulk probably cost them $70 maybe a little more maybe a little less, Ironically the full HD panel in the Galaxy Note 3 was more expensive (retail) at like $170... I only found one report that said Samsung pays $41 for the Snapdragon 801 and their price for the Snapdragon 805 is in the double digits... that could mean $10 - 99 each.... so you are probably somewhere in between $41 and 99 on the 805....

That said I had someone tell me the Nexus 6 would start at $419 for a 32 gig model..... but if history holds from the Nexus 4 to the Nexus 5 had a $50 price bump to go along with the bigger panel and improved overall specs... I'd be THRILLED if the Nexus 6 is just $399 and $449 (a $50 bump over the Nexus 5) but my money is on $449 and 499 price points....

My guess is the phone will be $399/$450. Hard to say what storage options those prices will be at, but I pray Google doesn't continue using 16GB because 16GB at $399 would seem expensive.

With those prices in mind the OnePlus One will be fine. Last I heard they still can't keep up with demand and I don't expect the Nexus 6 to slow sales down. You figure if the 64GB Nexus 6 is $450 it'll be at a $100 difference over the OnePlus One and many might not find the spec difference to be worth it especially if they don't want that much larger of a phone.

I hope this nexus isn't cheap. I don't like how the nexus line became a budget phone. It would be nice to see Google bring back the luxury feel to the nexus line like the nexus one. Stop making phones with cut corners and garbage cameras and weak batteries. Let one Plus take the low end market.

I'm not saying one plus cut corners or makes a bad phone, I would just like to see the nexus as a "high end" brand again like the nexus one used to be.

Yeah they estimate starting price in the US is $500..... To me that is still a reasonable price for an unlocked device with these specs.... LG G3 retails for $598 and the Note 4 retails for $850...... when you compare pricing that isn't bad.... Heck a Moto X 2014 is the same estimated $500 cost of the Nexus 6....... Not dirt cheap like the Nexus 4 or 5 but still relatively cheap considering........

The fact that the Nexus 5 price has not dropped makes me think the Nexus 6 is going to be more expensive. I expected Google to cut the price and sell out the phone like they did with the Nexus 4 last year.

Funny.. I was looking in my play store history and you are correct... The Nexus One was $500+ at the time..... I loved it but had limited coverage with T-Mobile back then so I ended up selling it 3 months later.... Didn't like the roller ball though..... Was mad when the Verizon version came out without the ball but a laser touch sensor thingy....

The dinc was sweet! Unfortunately I sold it for a sweet profit and got a Droid X. Which was pretty sweet. But once I got into the rooting and modding scene I wish I had kept the Dinc. I think one of my first posts on here was trying to go from stock to FlyX on the DX

I went from the Nexus One to the HTC EVO 4G on Sprint..... and I started on here shortly there after trying to root it and remove Sense... I really just liked vanilla stock android..... I had my EVO and GS3 Rooted and then went to the Nexus 5...... FINALLY got away from Sprint.... T-Mobile is ten times better than they were back when the N1 was released...

Most people doesn't realize the GSM Galaxy Nexus was $750. It actually took a few months before it become available on the Playstore and lowered to $399.

But Holy! I'm probably not going to get this phone right now either, too rich for my blood since I already spent $550 on the Moto X.

With that said, I think the price is right for what the phone offered. If I didn't get the Moto X, I'm probably still going to really consider this one.

No doubt it will **** off a lot of Nexus users who are spoiled by the subsidized price. Welcome to the real market pricing.

That really helps to put things into perspective. In that case, a $649 off-contract Nexus 6 doesn't seem too bad.

Yup... an unlocked Note 4 is upwards of $800+... I wouldn't use Verizon.. Too darn expensive... I currently pay $30 a month for T-Mobile with unlimited Text, Data (5 gig at 4G) and 100 minutes of talk time (I've not gone over 100 minutes in my 4+ months on this plan.. closest I came was 88) Hard to beat that...... but at least in my area T-Mobile is awesome coverage and speed wise... Verizon is too but not for what they charge (AT&T is usually better than both but again cost)

When I lived in Nashville Verizon was better than AT&T, Sprint or T-Mobile..... so it just depends on where you live, work and play......

It takes a lot of money and effort to make devices that are essentially handheld computers. That being said, we do have a wide spectrum of prices in Android phones (prices rounded):

Moto G - $180

OnePlus One - $300 - $350

Nexus 5 - $350 - $400

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact - $530

Nexus 6 - starting at around $650

HTC One (M8) Google Play edition - $700

Moto G - $180

OnePlus One - $300 - $350

Nexus 5 - $350 - $400

Sony Xperia Z3 Compact - $530

Nexus 6 - starting at around $650

HTC One (M8) Google Play edition - $700

No QHD in there except N6, had most HD phones wanting a QHD now.
