I posted a similar thread here http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-6/580209-nexus-6-major-streaming-issues-using-wifi.html.
I am posting here since it is a T-Mobile after much useless Googling only finding crap like "10 Common Nexus 6 problems and how to fix them" which I tried but did nothing and Wifi calling this and Wifi calling that which I already have turned off on my Nexus 6. I only found out this is a major problem when I went into the play store and found the Google Connectivity Service and read the reviews that Nexus 6 devices on T-Mobile have a major issue with WiFi slowing down.
I know when I try to stream music at higher bitrates it constantly buffers. DI.fm and RadioTunes at 320kbps buffers constantly only at 128k which sounds crappier it plays fine and that is only because the apps have a bigger buffer. I even stupidly cancelled my grandfather $50 a year plan thinking it was the service now I am stuck paying more because of this when I signed up again. Not pleased. I also listen to on demand playlist stations like Google Play Music and Slacker which are fine because they pre-download the songs but even rarely iy will pause for a few seconds when playing the start of the song.
Then thinking it was the app I listened to Soma.fm on Tunein which "never" buffered unless it was my connection. Listen for hours on the computer perfect streaming. Then on my Nexus 6 on Wifi after a few minutes buffer plays for about 15 seconds, buffers again. Try my Nexus 5 which still works on Wifi perfect streaming. Try my Nexus 7 (2013) again perfect streaming. Try my Nexus 6 on LTE perfect streaming again but since TuneIn is not part of music freedom it uses my data so I only try it for about 10 minutes tops.
Now however when I look at my traffic meter when connecting to WiFi which I should say is on my 5ghz network channel 36 and so is my Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 same network it is fine but on my Nexus 6 it is barely pushing any packets. At first I thought it was the phone but I tried streaming on LTE perfect matter of fact I am streaming DI.fm right now at 320kbps on LTE not one buffer. See what happens is when the screen turns off the Nexus 6 WiFi really slows down.
I am at wits end. Don't say that the 5ghz network has a shorter range and use 2.4ghz. I cant even print wireless on 2.4ghz and all my older devices could barely load webpages never mind stream anything that is how crowed it is on 2.4ghz I have over 70 networks in my neighborhood on 2.4ghz but only about 3 others on 5ghz. As long as I stay upstairs 5ghz network it is still strong enough it is not signal strength as it does this when I am standing right in front of the router also my older devices have no issues at any range it can travel at. It is already too late to return the Nexus 6 to Amazon. I would have but first I blamed DI.fm thinking it was the service which at times is not reliable or the app but when TuneIn and even a Soma.fm app and HTML5 page kept buffering I knew there was something wrong. Now I have to stream TuneIn on my Nexus 7 (2013) tablet and when I stream anything else part of music freedom I have to use the LTE network on my Nexus 6.
Also not realizing I forgot my router information. ASUS RT-N66W Router 374.43 (Merlin) using OpenDNS. Yes I tried different Merlin builds and even the Merlin forks no difference. I am tempted to try the Netgear Nighthawk AC 1900 or the cheaper Netgear Nighthawk AC1750 to see if it fixes it but with crap information online I don't know it if will fix the issue as it could be that the current Asus router is not fully optimized for the Nexus 6 Wifi but I don't know.
