I wouldn't but if I would have wanted a g3 I would have bought one in the first place.

If the LG G3 was available direct from LG without ANY carrier bloatware AND if it had the radios to work on all the carriers like the N6, then yes, I would have seriously considered the G3 or the Note 4. It took several months, but I finally got my 64gb N6.

I went from m8 to note 4 to m8 to nexus 6
I'm liking the nexus 6

What are you liking about the n6 that you didn't about the note 4

I went to the N6 from the G3... so I have some experience here...

First... I wouldn't go back.. Don't get me wrong, the G3 is a great phone, but it has its share of issues. First, the stock ROM needs some fine tuning. Straight from LG, it has a few fits and hiccups and UI jinks. Loading the CloudyG3 ROM cleared up a lot of those issues, but then I ended up losing T-Mobile's Wi-Fi Calling... which kind of stunk. Yes, there are plenty of AOSP ROMs out there and they run REALLY well on the G3, but there are a few features of the stock software that are actually pretty nice....

One thing that the G3 has on the Nexus 6 is the camera. The G3's shooter (with LG's stuff loaded) is a demon.... takes pics blazing quick, and they are rock solid steady and consistent. The Nexus 6's camera is really good, but the LG camera app and the laser focus make one hell of a pair. It is that camera that is why I will be swapping out my wife's Nexus 5 for a G3 soon. I'd get her a Nexus 6, but it'd be way too big a phone for her liking.

But the Nexus 6's screen is better, bigger... the Nexus has lasts longer on a charge... the speakers are MUCH better. The G3's speaker is loud, but rear facing speakers kind of suck.

I had the G3 prior to the N6 and it is a great step up.
The G3 is indeed a great device. LG is really coming up in the world.
But there is something about the Nexus.
It's lean. It's mean. And it's not too far in between.
No bloat. Great screen. Sleek design. Good battery.
Best I have ever had.

Mav.

Sent from my Sprint Tri-Band Nexus 6.

I switched from the N6 to a G3 but only because I am still on a UDP with Verizon and paid full price for a 64gb and had an opportunity to buy a brand new G3 for less than $275.

I decided to sell the N6 and got almost what I paid minus some accessories I included.

For the price difference, I will stick with the G3, it has a great screen, camera, and battery life, and wait for Verizon's official version of the N6 and consider if I want to go back, look at an S6 Edge, or even a G4.

With all that, the Nexus 6 is the best phone I've ever had, especially if you can live with the size.

I've had them both. G3 is an excellent phone. Can't go wrong with either. I personally prefer the Nexus 6 because of screen, speakers and timely updates.

The "laser focusing" LG emphasizes in their advertising is simply a short range infrared beam that is only turned on in very low light situations to calculate short distances when lighting is so low that normal contrast detection can't be used. The vast majority of the time the camera is using the same focus detection as any camera does. "Laser Focus" is simply a marketing term. The camera has no lasers.

What is so bad about the stock ROM ? I think its one of the best stock ROM's on the market if not the best due to its customization. Yes it may not be the most fluid like Sense but it works great for me.

As for Nexus VS G3 it really comes down to if you want a bigger screen - I'm not sure one is "better"

If the camera is active, the laser unit is always firing (you can see it). It fires off a series of IR laser 'cones' in 40cm increments until it 'locks'. If it can't find anything or gets confused, it'll revert to straight contrast AF.... but it is used in both low light as well as bright conditions.

It's not a marketing ploy. The combination of the laser unit plus software AF makes for an easy camera to use. I owned the G3 (and actually own it again)... took a TON of pictures with it... and nothing can match it when it comes to getting a reliable shot, especially when used in darker conditions. Other phones may be able to match it as far as speed, but not its consistency.... you have to go out of your way to take a blurry shot.

Yes, it is a marketing ploy. They advertise laser focusing. There is no laser beam and the phone does not use lasers in any way. It uses an infra red beam and times the reflection of the beam to measure distance. Infrared focusing is only useful in low light for short distances. DSLR cameras have used this focusing technique for years.

I too just came from the G3 before that I had the N5 liked the g3s camera and the fact that you could customize it was good. Camera is a plus. Personally I prefer stock and 3 things i really like better on the N6 the dialer (with google search lookup) the status bar (you can't customize it but the LG one just constantly takes up too much space) and got used to smart lock. and yes there are apps that mimic it but when your work policy limits what types of passwords you can use - it kills all functionality of those apps. Smart lock is at the OS level so it can bypass that.

lastly when it comes to do anything "custom" or anything with root - its just easier and less stressful with a nexus.
