So i bought my Nexus 6p like 4 months ago not really knowing that the changr to the pixel phone would happen this year. I love it, and i mostly love staying up to date with the latest and greatest for google.

Are we still gonna get the latest and greatest or is going to Be reserved for Pixel from now on?

Yeah I couldn't see why not. It's still a Google phone after all...

I'm still thinking that we're gonna get some half assed update... I really like the google assistant tho but 650$? They must Be high as a kite

Sure we're going to get good updates.. At least thru O. They're going to be Developer Previews so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The reports are that Google's pulling an Apple and the Nexus devices are going to get a stripped version of 7.1. Apparently there are quite a few features that are going to be Pixel only, Google Assistant being the main one. I was worried this was going to happen.

There's a reason I'm not using an iPhone, and now they seem to be doing their damnedest to go that direction. The Pixels look similar to it, the price is pretty much the same for the storage options, they skip a storage option so there is only small and large (which like on the iPhone may force you to go with the higher storage option), and they're holding back features from older generations, except in this case it isn't 2 or 3 year older generations, but the previous year. At least with the iPhone they pick something and keep working on it to get it right, whereas Google tries something, and then scraps it and starts over, rinse, repeat.

I'm sorry but I don't like the direction they're heading in.

I like the pixel phone, but what was wrong with Nexus? I mean really a lot of people stil use a Nexus 5 and get the latest updates, and that was the beauty of Nexus. It's google really that desperate to make money fast?

It's not a 'stripped version of 7.1'. The stand alone (non Allo) Google Assistant is an add-on to Pixel devices running Android, not a 'core feature' of Android that's being stripped out of non-Pixel devices. There's a substantial difference between the two.

Exactly...

I'm not worried about it.

I'll use my 6p until it quits and flash what it will run till something I want more comes along

Ok, so what features that weren't hardware driven did the 5x & 6p have over the Nexus 6?

Now if you remember, the new launcher was originally called the Nexus launcher and was tested on Nexus devices. Now they changed the name to Pixel and reserved them for the Pixels, so there was no reason they couldn't work on our phones. From what I'm hearing the Pixels launch with 7.1. Our version of 7.1 won't come out until later in the year, doesn't sound like fast and reliable updates to me.

Did someone say the Nexus phones aren't going to receive the monthly patches anymore? No? I didn't hear that? Then I guess we still are going to see 'fast and reliable' updates as far as the core Android system goes. And, we'll just have to see when the Nexus phones get 7.1. And 8. And so on. Wild speculation at this point does noone any good.
