I've been struggling with my Nexus 6p device since I've received the March security update! The phone started getting very hot even with moderate use and battery life reduced to half of what was earlier. I went through hundreds of forums online but didn't find a solution. I tried clearing cache partition and waiting for an April update expecting the phone to function normally! I also removed all the third party apps to see if that was the problem. My phone's battery life has come down 3 hours SOT which was 5-6 hours before the update.. The phone also heats up very quickly. My battery stats is showing wifi always on even when it is off and the scanning is also off in advanced location settings. After several attempts of trial and error and seeing that April update did not change anything, I did a factory reset on the device. Currently my phone is as good as a new phone as I chose to not recover any apps from a previous backup. The problem still persists. The wifi is always on in wifi. Even when I switch the phone off for some time and switch on, the wifi is always shown on in battery stats. Please help me fix this.

Lots of posts in other threads about degraded (battery) performance after the March update. Seems like you've done your research, but did you check the "always on/off" toggle in advanced wifi settings? Hail Mary but I thought I'd ask.

I'd like to update but won't. On the Jan patch and the phone is working so nicely I don't want to muck it up with the March patch. I'll wait til the end of April at least to be sure I can get past it ...

Btw can you tell me what build number your phone shows since you did the March security update? Thnx and good luck!

I'm not sure if I understand, while you stated you did a factory reset, did you add your apps back. If you put your apps back, it is likely there is an app that is causing the issues. Likely, the app has not been correctly updated to run on Marshmallow. It appears that, with Doze, Marshmallow has changed the way apps are supposed to update their data and, if not correctly programmed, it keeps the phone awake. Basically, you need to update and just add a few apps at a time, until you can identify the app that is causing the issue.

If you did a factory reset and did not do anything else to your phone and are still having these issues than you need to contact Google/Huawei (whichever you purchased the phone from). It sounds as it is is likely a hardware problem and -- having done a clean factory reset and still had problems -- they should replace your phone.

I'm curious about the March update. From what I've seen, the majority of 6P users have had no issues. I suspect Android closed a security hole that some apps were using, and this is why some users are seeing issues.

A few people are having a similar problem with the Nexus 7 2013. I have wifi set to off when sleeping, no location scanning and even set location to device (GPS) only and yet battery stats (device and GSam) show wifi continuously on. Intermittently, GSam will show severe battery drain due to wifi while not showing corresponding wakelocks. Only putting the device in Airplane mode shuts down wifi. Reports in that thread say that a factory reset solves the problem on that device. (I'm waiting to see if the April update helps before I reset.)

Note every app that I have on my N7 is also on my 6P and I do not have this problem on the 6P (knock wood).

Have you received the April Security Patch update yet? I myself have had battery degradation since the March update going from 4:30-5:30 SOT to 3 SOT or even 2:30 in some extreme cases!

Similar issue here, and I'm running the April update. WiFi is always on, although now Doze is working again which is good

Go to location settings and turn off WiFi always scanning.

April update improved my battery but i have only used it for half day. I toggled wifi off and then On and rebooted my phone and that seems to have fixed the wifi woes

I have the April update and noticed my battery is not as nice as it was last month. I have the scanning turned off in the location setting since March. Not sure why my SOT went from 4 hours to 2.5.

Hi guys,
anyone found a solution to this? i just hard reset my phone but the wifi apparently is still on in the battery settings.

I also would like to know if someone has been able to resolve this issue on their phone. I came onto the forums looking for an answer and found this thread.

I think I solved the always on wifi on my Nexus 6P, I noticed my battery draining fast with SOT in the 2-2.5 hour neighborhood. My Nexus 6P exhibited the same problem of wifi being on all the time with a solid blue bar in the battery stats screen and wake locks to match wwhen my wifi was supposedly off and wifi scanning off in the location settings. Although I did a factory reset last month, the problem persisted. Today, I think I narrowed it down to the culprit in my situation. I use IF for several things and one of them being turn on wifi near home and turn off wifi when leaving home. I think there may be a bug keeping the phone awake and wifi on since IF will use the GPS to cycle the wifi per the rules I set up. I turned off the wifi rules in IF about 30 minutes ago as of this posting. I already see the gap of the wifi bar has stopped recording battery usage. I will be sending an email to the IF support team to look into the bug of keeping the wifi awake when the rule set is supposed to turn it off.

FWIW this (the WiFi bar in the battery detail view) seems to work as expected on the Android N beta (builds 4 and 5).
