Nexus 6P Now Showing "Charging Slowly" After Turning Off Boost Charger

Hi all,

Firstly, I'm new here and I apologise if I am asking a dumb question. I've searched the threads here and followed how to get rid of the ads on the second charging screen that S Photo Editor was implanting via its dodgy adware.

However, now I've found that since turning off the Boost Charger, my phone says "Charging Slowly" when I plug it in to charge. Is this a legit issue or am I being naive and still have some bloatware/adware on my phone?

Thanks in advance for your help,
Amaliah

Welcome to Android Central! Moved from the Nexus 6 forum to the Nexus 6P forum.

Do you still have that S Photo Editor app installed? What's the Boost Charger you mention -- is that some additional "feature" that S Photo Editor offers? If it's not crucial to you, I'd completely uninstall it, since it's probably causing all of these issues.

Thanks for the welcome. I uninstalled S Photo Editor. That's when I got the "Charging Slowly" message when charging. It _seems_ to be charging more slowly, but that could be influenced by seeing those words on the screen.

Re: Nexus 6P Now Showing "Charging Slowly" After Turning Off Boost Charger

FWIW I've had problems with the phone reporting 'Charging' rather than 'Charging rapidly' when using the original charging brick and cable (USB-C - USB-C) that came with the phone. So I purchased another (two port) charger from the Google Play Store. Turns out the original cable was the culprit.

Edit: guess I should add that I've only seen the 'Charging slowly' message when using a USB-A - USB-C solution.

Hi all,

Sorry for the slow response. I've been using the original cable with no issues prior to the Boost Charging issue that was courtesy of S Photo Editor (that I have since uninstalled). I ended up taking your advice and after it still charged slowly in Safe Mode yet nothing could be found uninstalling all apps, I ended up just buying another USB-C cable to replace the original and lo and behold, rapid charging again. The culprit was the cable. I have no idea why it happened when it did - just coincidence I guess. Thank you both for your advice on this issue.

Happy Friday from Down Under :D

Cheers,

I wonder what the threshold is for that, anyway?

I've had a Qi charging loop, under a pretty thick (Spigen) case since day 1 of my Nexus 6P (I came from the Win phone world, where wireless charging has been more or less standard for a really long time, and very addictive), and I've only seen that message once or twice.
My loop charges at about 7-800 mAh, roughly, depending on the charging plate (most of ours can deliver 1000-2000, but no aftermarket loop I've ever found will push more than 1000, in "perfect" conditions).

No question though, the USB-C cable world is a mess, despite the consortium's best efforts, there's just way to much cheap stuff out there, and it's easy to get it "confused" with decent cables. Plus there's several USB-C "fast charging" models now too, unfortunately, several manufacturers have chosen to have "added value" and only provide fast charging if you buy their (typically very expensive) cables, which often use a data line as a secondary charge line, adding yet another potential "disaster", if you mix/match the cables...
