All of a sudden today I was on my Nexus in portrait like I use it most of the time and it rated upside down. It is now stuck on that location with the camera on the bottom. I rotate it all directions and it doesn't rotate. I've locked and unlocked auto rotate. I've rebooted and nothing. If I open clash of clans then it goes into landscape and always the same way, I can't make it rotate in landscape like before. I close clan of clash and back to the locked portrait location. Any ideas what it could be? I updated to 5.02 over a week ago as everything was running fine. Thanks

This works for me:

1. Shut down
2. Gently squeeze the tablet screen and back together all over the tablet(not too hard)
3. Restart

If you want more of a permanent solution, you will have to be brave and take the rear cover off of the N7 and put something like styrafoam inside. Here is a YouTube video describing the procedure.

I had the EXACT same problem until I did this. I'm sure you probably won't feel comfortable taking off the rear cover, but it is the ONLY way to fix this issue. Trust me, I balked at this for months until I couldn't take pushing the back of the device almost every time I used it. Hope this helps!

I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my N7 stopped screen rotation. Just like the OP, I kept pressing the back of the device to get it to work temporarily, but every few minutes it would stop again. Finally, I did a Google to see if there was a more permanent solution and I stumbled across that YouTube video. Believe it or not, the fix was relatively easy. Now, my N7 works without any issues whatsoever.

i watched the video how to open it in order to fix it, i tried to press the cable, then just put it back together again. it didn't work. i was hoping that i didn't have to do anything physically.

then i read another post, it suggested to clear the cache. i did just that. and it worked perfectly. so it seems that it wasn't caused by anything physical, but only software problem!

What I do if this happens is open an app that is locked in the orientation that you desire. I use Instagram when it is stuck landscape and I use pixel dungeon when stuck in portrait.
