My Nexus 7 went crazy last week. Worked perfectly then suddenly it wouldn't switch on. Connected to charger and got static screen with white pixels.
Saw that this could be due to extermely low batter so charged unit using original charger and cable. Eventually I was able to get it to do something.

I hit the power button and Google appeared. I then waited for the animation for KitKat to start... ... ... ... ... waited some more ... ... ... essentially I can wait until the battery is dead again and it will have just stayed on Google the whole time.

So entered Fastboot to do a hard reset. Sometime the Fastboot screen freezes and volume controls do nothing. Other times I can go through the various options, but if I select Recovery Mode I just get the Google screen again.

I have held a variety of buttons for minutes at a time with no effect. Searched extensively and I don't think there is anything I can do. Problem is I won this thing and I cannot get a warranty repair.

Can someone PLEASE give me an alternative to buying a whole new unit? I have had the back off and disconnected and reconnected the battery to no avail. Any advice or response would be gratefully appreciated.

Is there some secret ninja reset that needs the cover removed? I am willing to try almost anything.

Cheers!!!

Hi, thanks for replying. Unfortunately I have checked for a loose battery and it's fine. Even went and disconnected and reconnected. As for the other..

I hold down vol-down and power (or vol-up, vol-down and power) to gain access to FastBoot.

When here I can sometimes use the volume rocker to switch between the top level options. I can power off and restart the bootloader, but if I hit the power button when Recovery is selected I only ever see the Google logo. I try all sorts of button presses but I never see the red triangle.

I am (kind of) running KitKat. To make matters worse I can't even get a computer (I've tried multiple) to see that a USB device has been connected. With power off, when I connect I do see the battery icon so I know power is going to the tablet, it just doesn't seem to send anything back. The CPU seems to produce a massive amount of heat if I leave it in the boot loader. I assume it is the CPU, it is the chip under the large copper flap.

Don't want to admit defeat, but I am struggling to see what else I can try. Any ideas?

What do you mean you're kind of running KitKat? Did it update over the air officially, or did you sideload or flash it?

Side loaded KitKat and then a day or so later received an OTA of 1-2Mb. It was all working great. I had even downloaded the Google Experience launcher and thought it looked great. It was the evening after that update when it died. May have been as a result of connecting to a dud car charger. Not sure why as my phone and kindle were both tried without any after effects.

I say kind of running KitKat as it is installed, but I cannot get a recovery or a boot up. I have seen someone suggesting disconnecting the battery and then connecting the power and holding the power button, but I am not sure if that is a valid method.

Bought my mum a nexus 7 about a year ago (no receipts :-( ) now she plugs it in to charge and the battery icon shows and goes to full battery but it won't boot up plugged in or unplugged. Have tried the combinations of buttons but no joy.

Two questions: as the thread above, is there anything else to try?

Secondarily, I have the box and serial number, is there any way to find out when I bought it to see if it's still covered by warranty?

Thanks very much.

How long have you held down the power button? Sometimes you have to hold it for a while, like 30 seconds.
