Nexus 7 Old vs New - Layout/Visual Differences?

Hi,

I will give some background, just in case it may be helpful: I need to buy multiple tables for use in a classroom. I've settled on the old Nexus 7 with LTE, (Wi-Fi won't be available), due to availability and price. However, one of the tablets needs to be connected to a projector. I'm considering getting a single Nexus 7 2013, which will be then connected through slimport to a projector.

My question is: What kind of visual/layout differences can I expect between the old and new Nexus 7?

I'd think the biggest difference would be screen resolution but that can largely be negated via the use of a launcher that will give you the same number of rows and columns on both the '12 and '13 N7. Nova is a popular launcher and would do this fine. Hopefully, you'll get additional feedback as well.
