Nexus 7: Random restarts?

Re: Random restarts?

I've had mone for 2 weeks with no issues until yesterday. Reboot/X screen four times while in Chrome Beta or Seesmic (Twitter app).

Random reboot while watching Netflix on my new Nexus 7.

Mine also restarts sometimes but only when using Netflix and moving the tablet between landscape and portrait view. Seems like the only app it has trouble with so far on my device.

Re: Random restarts?

No random restarts so far here. Have had the device and using heavily for about ten days.

Re: Random restarts?

Mine restarts probably 3 times a day. Really annoying.

Is there anything in particular that you are doing at the moment or any patterns you notice when you get these reboots? Do you know if you have received the latest update yet? (JSS15J). If you have further detail or question you can reach me directly at cl-fred@asus.com

Re: Random restarts?

Mine is a few weeks old and rebooted like ton the first day while trying to install the updates. Once they were installed much better. But I still get random reboots when not even using it. Mine is encrypted so it will reboot itself and then sit at the encryption password prompt making the tick sound. Wakes me up some nights, so annoying! Just a little bit ago it rebooted while in my backpack. I am passed my return window so I really hope this ends up being a software issue.

Re: Random restarts?

Just to update this thread I haven't had a single reboot since I turned off scanning available in the Wi-Fi settings. Been up solid for a week

I just turned off "Scanning always available". Thanks for the tip, I really hope it helps since mine has rebooted 3 times today alone. The last two reboots I hadn't even used the device. As I stated above I can tell it reboots since I have it encrypted and it boots to the encryption password and makes that tick sound. So in my case it is definitely not being caused by using Chrome.

Re: Random restarts?

Please be on the look for the new update (JSS15Q) it suppose to resolve some issues. This update should be rolling out today. For those of you that have already received the update please let us know how its going and if it has resolve some of your reboot issues.

After updating to JSS15Q, still reboot problems persist.

Re: Random restarts?

Did a factory reset today and reloaded it. The only app I have that is causing this is chrome since the last update and it seems common looking through the feedback on the newest version. Netflix caused an issue to where it wouldn't turn on also seems like others have had this issue to randomly happened once to me which is why I did the reset.

It happens for me too when sharing links in Chrome. I am on a Nexus 7 2013 32GB, running completely stock (no root) KitKat 4.4.2, and the tablet just reboots. It's really annoying, and I'm hoping it's software rather than hardware. I'm 2 months beyond my return date. I bought it on December 26, 2014. As a worst-case scenario, I have a Squaretrade warranty, but that only covers one full replacement and I'd rather use that replacement for something like a shattered screen. I hope Google can fix this soon!

Re: Random restarts?

It seems related to the last update to 4.4.3 since I have had my 7 2013 since the day it came out and this just started. It has only happened a few times but also only since the update. I will try and se what is running when it happens.
Google help us.

Re: Random restarts?

as a person who has had two tablets, i can tell you that there is something wrong with your tablet, it is not you.

for my last tablet, i used it twice in the safe mode, it still randomly rebooted. And when it was in the regular mode, it actually randomly shut down. i also did a factory reset, it also randomly restarted. one time, it restarted about 2 hours later when i didn't even use it after the first reboot.

everyone should install the free app called "reboot logger", it will record every random reboot. you will be surprised.
