Nexus 7 vs Asus Fonepad File Downloading from Gmail

I had a Nexus 7 and could download PDF, Word and app files, etc. from Gmail to the device. I damaged my Nexus 7 and so I thought I'd try out the new Asus Fonepad which is essentially the same thing. Well, I find that I can not download files - e.g., app files, PDF documents, etc. - from my Gmail.

The only way I can transfer files to my Asus Fonepad is if I connect the micro USB to my notebook computer and copy and past or cut and paste.

Is there a solution to this?

Also, why is there a difference between my Nexus 7 and the Asus Fonepad in this regard when it comes to downloading files from Gmail when they are essentially the same device?

Not sure why you say they are "essentially the same device" unless you mean they are both 7 inch android tablets made by asus...they certainly differ substantially:

In any case, the nexus 7 is a pure android device and the fonepad has whatever software configuration asus wants it to so that is probably the difference in what you are experiencing...
