if Apple decides to sue because the Nexus 7 looks like Apple products or for infringing patens...
who do they sue? Google, Inc.... or Asus?

Just wondering....

I guess Asus only because Samsung is being sued for the Galaxy Nexus. Both are Google products but guess the hardware Manufacture takes the fall it seems with the Galaxy Nexus. I think the reason why Google doesn't get sued for nexus devices because the manufacture auction to create a Nexus device leaving Google some how not responsible for the device. Though I am stretching quite a bit to understand Google's place and there silences.

They sue whoever they allege is violating the patent. If it's a software claim, it's likely going to be Google. If it's a hardware design claim, it's likely going to be Asus. If they feel both hardware and software patents have been infringed, they'll sue both.

So the GN is a hardware claim? I thought the quick search box was software by google?

on the other hand, Google should sue Apple's pants off if Apple breaks its promise
and introduce a 7-inch iPad!

Yea I dont believe this to be true, As apple has yet to bring a claim against google (as far as I know) , and all of the patents they are suing hardware manufacturers for are primarily software based.
I think the reason they can not sue google is maybe because google is not selling the OS to manufacturers, its free. And because of this maybe they are protected while the hardware OEMS are making profit off of the devices? I am not sure though

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is investigating if Google and Motorola Mobility are honoring fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) commitments made to license standards-essential patents. A civil investigative demand, similar to a subpoena, has been issued to Google as it looks at overall practices in litigation and licensing. The US investigation follows the opening of European Commission investigations into Motorola Mobility and Samsung Electronics for FRAND violations as well.

And this article explains?

And this article explains?

Not sure if it explains anything really. Nothing to do with the topic at hand at least (Apple suing Google or Asus).

The only reason Google will be involved in a lawsuit now is because they merged with Motorola...whom were dumb enough to use FRAND patents as offensive fire. Hence the FTC investigation.

& you don't think google already knew what was going on? You think google didn't do their homework before handing over the cash? That's not how corporations work. The point is that all corporations have dirt under their fingernails.

When have I ever said otherwise? I was extrapolating further on the article you linked. Regardless of whether or not Google was aware of Motorola's litigious behavior it does not mean they, as in Google Inc., were directly involved themselves in the litigation until the merger was complete, which Google now bears responsibility. That is fact.

But also that apple is not the only one in the news & that google & moto are no different, to think otherwise is pure bias. To get your panties in a bunch over apple is just silly.

The topic was discussing the potential of Apple v Asus or Google. Of course there are other cases ongoing out there, I don't think that was a point of contention that necessitates discussion in this particular thread. So again I ask, what does that have to do with the topic at hand?

The point as I said is that every corporation has dirt under their fingernails. So there is no reason to get ones panties in a bunch.

And to bring up the topic of who apple sues because of the nexus 7 is just sour grapes. There is no indication of Apple suing either of them.

I wouldn't say anyone's "panties are in a bunch". Sure there isn't any indication that Apple is going to sue Google or Asus, and especially since they have bigger fish(Samsung) to fry. But if they are given precedent at trial to get a permanent injunction against the Galaxy Nexus, then it wouldn't be surprising that they'd go after everyone else. That is unless Google removes those infringing features.

In my opinion the Nexus 7 is high profile enough to cross Apple's radar.

We will see. They could push out an update to the nexus 7 if there is any "infringing" features. Let's hope nothing does happen because I do want to buy one. It will replace my galaxy tab 2 7".

Read it.

I actually did read the article but your point was missing until now. Furthermore IMHO your point is off bases to the majority discussing in this thread. No disrespect to your point however if few individuals want "to cry and have their panties in a bunch" please be respectful to though individuals because as far I have read in this thread no one is attacking you. Please leave out the negative comments and be more sensibly critical in your opinion.

Now as far as your concern with the topic of this thread I assure it's a sound topic. The majority want to debate on a possible hypothetical in this thread that can shed some light on relationship between Google and their partners when it comes to these lawsuits.

If you further feel this thread is pointless then you can simply leave. However your incite is much welcome as long it's in a respectful manner to others. The article was very interesting but I did not see the other side of these patent wars accept for apple but did not believe they were the only one.

I was being respectful. I don't see the point of speculating when there is no indication that it will happen. Lets talk about what IS happening. It's sour grapes just to bring it up. My opinion. If you don't agree with it you don't have to respond either. & if I want to post in a thread I have every right too.

These law suits will only prove that apple is a money hungry company without Steve Jobs
