Nexus 7 Wifi Issues?

I purchased a 2013 Nexus 7, and while about 15 feet away from my router with line of sight, unfortunately I only have one bar of wifi (and the service is spotty at best with constant disconnects). In addition to this, I can't see ANY of the other routers that I can see on my computer, galaxy nexus, pre3, iphone, laptops, or touchpads, including my access point, which I have upstairs.

I've read plenty of threads about people having issues like this after the 4.3 update with the 2012 N7, but after scouring the depths of the net, I can't find anyone with similar issues on the 2013 version (aside from GPS, multitouch, and the static X).

Has anyone else experienced this? If so, did you fix it somehow or return/exchange it? As far as I can tell, I don't have any of the other issues, so I'd like to avoid exchanging if possible so as to avoid getting one of the other lemons.

Edit: For the record, I did the upgrade to 4.4 with no change in wifi reception.

Welcome to Android Central!

Is the router broadcasting in 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz? If 5Ghz try pushing back to 2.4Ghz.

Thank you! I've been a lurker, but long time member (not active in the forums but active in webos-internals IRC) of precentral/webosnation.

Router broadcasts both 5 ghz and 2.4. The issue is that I can't really connect to either, and can't even see my access point, which is practically above my head through the ceiling.

I'm going to head to best buy and exchange it. Hope I don't encounter the issue again.

If you have other devices that are connecting fine yeah, it may be time to exchange that for an LG G Pad (I had to throw that in :-).

I bought one of the new Nexus 7s from Amazon and tried to start it up in a Starbucks (no wi-fi at home). Froze up. Tried another Starbucks. Froze up. Bought a wireless router and hooked it up at home. That froze up, too. Contacted Amazon support via my desktop (no wifi) and they advised me to return the Nexus 7, so I did, regretfully. Pretty thing, but it didn't connect. Tant pis.

It should have wanted to update to 4.3 or 4.4 right out of the box, once on a network. I'm sorry it didn't work out.

I found out how to connect via my Comcast modem. I need to enter the original wireless password network key and not my own password. This is not very satisfactory as that key is large and not something I could ever remember or enter again easily, nor do I know how to change it.

"Comcast should be able to walk you through changing the password though."

I can change my personal password, but N7 won't accept that. It wants the original factory supplied 25 digit or whatever it is password. As for Comcast walking me through anything - have you ever dealt with those useless idiots? An exercise in frustration! They'll switch me over to the "higher level" to answer any question that's not on their readout or 10 most asked questions - and the so-called higher level wants my credit card number and $$$ to answer questions.
