Those of you with this unit in hand, just wondering how the headphone amp on this unit performs.

Does it seem flat and balanced, or boomy/bright at all compared to other units you've used? How it the power output, is there plenty of head room, or do you find yourself maxing out the volume?

Just curious, I've noticed my GS4 can barely power my favorite IEMs, wondering what your experience may be with this tablet.

This is always a question of mine too. I had a few HTC Evos and always loved the sound on those. For the past year or so, I've had the Nexus 7(2013) and Nexus 5 (both non-HTC Devices). Now I have the N9 on my desk.

I'm happy to say the amp is much louder than my N7 and N5. I can't keep it at max volume for very long. I often had the others at or near max volume. Especially inside a jet.

As for the sound quality, to me it sounds very well balanced. Just like my old Evos. I'm using a pair of Klipsch Image S4 heaphones and bass is not boomy at all. The highs are as bright as you would want, not muffled at all.

Overall, I'm so much happier with the audio quality on this than on my N5/N7.

That's excellent news. Thanks for the reply. It's definitely encouraging to hear positive feedback on an often overlooked function.

Normally I have to turn the volume all the way up on devices when using the headphones but not in the N9. I'm only running at about 2/3.
