Hi,

Did a search and found others are having issues but no real solution. I am not getting notification of Voicemails on my Nexus 6 with Verizon service.

I see some saying you need to turn off Visual Voicemail in My Verizon but I can not see how to do that?

I would prefer to have visual Voicemail as I have grown to really like it, is that possible with this device at this point?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.

Theres something missing on the Nexus 6 to translate the voicemail text. I use Google Voice for voicemail. You will see and hear your messages through hangouts. I had to turn off HD voice on my account, for the conditional call forwarding to work.

Thanks for the reply.

I'd like to use Google Voice, I tried setting it up but it wouldn't work. I don't believe I have HD voice on my account. Any idea of what the issue could be? Did you have to do anything special?

First, I changed the voicemail number from *86 to my GV number in call settings. Then I did *73 to clear everything out. Then I did *71 and GV number and its worked even since. This is just today, I got it working

Man, I have no idea what I am doing wrong. I didn't change from *86 to my GV number but that should only effect speed dialing? Or am I wrong?

Do you have basic visual voicemail enabled?

Just got finished with this issue, if the phone you came from had VVM activated before going the the N6 you'll have issues. The free version is a hybrid of regular voicemail and not full on like the paid version. You'll need to call VZW and have them switch your number back to basic VM to stop receiving the garbles text and get a true VM notification back.

I just did this today, and my Voicemail works again, main problem solved.

But, I am wondering, has anyone gotten Google Voice to work on N6 with Verizon?

The app says "unfortunately your network carrier is not currently supported for automatic voicemail configuration"

Check out the instructions at this link - https://support.google.com/voice/answer/1065744?hl=en

"If you are having trouble configuring Google Voice as your voicemail service on Verizon you can make the switch manually by dialing these three activation codes:
*71[Your Google Voice number]
*90[Your Google Voice number]
*92[Your Google Voice number]"

Ok, thanks everyone, I now I have Google Voice working. However, the voicemails are not popping up via Hangouts, they simply come to the Google Voice app. Nott a huge deal I guess but it would be more convenient to get them in Hangouts, and from everything I read they should come there automatically if the Google Voice and Hangouts emails are the same, which they are :/

I am feeling my age struggling with this.

I found these instructions from Google:

"
Download the latest version of the Hangouts app.

Open the Hangouts app. When you open the Hangouts app, you'll see a message asking if you'd like to turn on text messages and voicemail in the Hangouts app.

Touch Turn it on. If you don't see the message and want to turn on text messages and voicemail, touch your profile photo > touch Settings > tick the box next to "Messages: Show SMS & voicemail in Hangouts".
"

Under settings I do not see "Messages: Show SMS & voicemail in Hangouts".

:/

You have to opt in on getting voicemails in the Google Hangouts app. I did it online.
