My battery life has been pretty good on my new gnex for the last couple of days that I've owned it but recently in the battery stats in settings it says that maps is the second highest usage of power with 11% after display of course.

But I haven't used maps at all for the past two days and it has showed the same thing when I checked the battery then also .

However it didn't say this for the first two or three days that owned the phone. (only had the phone for about a week) .. It was screen first then cell standard then idle which seemed pretty normal.... Any cause on why maps would be the second highest percentage?

Your GPS is probably running in the background and Maps is updating your location.

Just force stop the app, or turn off the GPS and it'll quit draining battery power. Of course, if you say it's a non-issue than just let it be.

I have to say I have been pretty impressed with the battery life so far.

me too, so far it has been quite a bit better than the HTC Inspire.......I remember my Samsung Captivate used to drain very quickly......used to overheat too.....fingers crossed this Samsung device doesn't start acting like that.

I'm more than happy with the battery life. I was expecting much worse.

Obviously a brand new battery will be a peak performance, but it's way better than I thought it would be.

Ah, yes. This seems much better than the Captivate. Bigger battery, anyway.

My gps is not running only thing running was Google location and the maps is at 12 percent.. Maps percentage suddenly started going up within the past two days and I haven't changed any settings

Hmm... That's strange, I'm not sure what would be causing that. But like I said, if it's really bothering you or causing battery issues just force stop the app. It won't hurt anything, unless you need to quickly access Maps or are using Navigation (obviously).
