Hi my nexus has been working great until a couple days ago when it has decided to not go into deep sleep because the screen continously goes on and off because it thinks it is being plugged in to charge. This is absolutely killing my battery and I don't know what has changed with the phone for it to start this. I was originally on AOKP M4 when it started and wiped everything to see if something went wrong but it kept going. Since then I've tried different roms and different kernels but it wont stop. I've had my phone since launch day and didn't get insurance so any suggestions?

Check the USB socket and see if there is something stuck in there that is making a connection. May be some pocket foil or other metallic debris has worked it way into the socket.

I started to have this issue. I have wiped rewiped flashed different roms. I even flashed back to stock rooted still no go. Starting to think it is a hardware issue. It is not the battery still does it with my spare. Think I am going to try to get a replacement under warrenty ...

Yea just called they are sending me a replacement. Think it might have been my car charger that started it

I just started having this issue. Its under warranty and I have insurance, you guys think its a hardware issue not software?

I have had the same problem on both our Gnex's
It's the cable. Replace the cable and you should be fine.

A few weeks ago mine wouldn't charge while plugged into a outlet and I tried everything from different ROMs to even stock, then got a replacement. And now after 3 more replacements I think I have a winner. Good luck :)

As I think someone mentioned in this thread, its the USB port. Somethings wrong with it. So lucky me the best I can do a "certified factory refurbished". Not happy about it but don't have many choices.

Twice in six weeks I had my GNex replaced for the same issue. It was the the port. I also thought it was from my car charger but the second one was never charged with the car charger.

This happened to me a couple of day ago. The phone would not charge or connect to my computer. What I did to fix the problem was take a q-tip, cut it in half and clean the usb connectors in the port. This worked perfectly, and the problem has not happened since. Also, one more thing to consider is it could also be your charger or your usb cable.

Happened to me just last week. They replaced it under the warranty with no problem. Definitely was a hardware issue. So just try to get a replacement, and hope this one works better. Good luck!

This just started happening to me. If I move the phone when it is plugged in it goes in and out of charging. I was hoping it might have just been the cable, but it does it with the car charger too. Now I'm going to have to get a CLN device even though I've had this one for only two weeks.

Odd. I just tried two cables I haven't used much (so they're still pretty new), and they both fit in tightly with no play. All of the movement that caused the others to stop charging had no effect. Now I'm unsure whether to just hope it was the cables and swap them out, or just assume it was the port and get an exchange.

Ordered two new Samsung cables to see if that makes a difference.

Thank god for this thread. This issue had plagued me for a week. Never any problem with the phone charging when it was connected, I had the issue of it thinking it was charging when it wasn't even connected. As this wakes the screen it was killing my battery. At first I thought it was a rom I just flashed so I went back to a previous one but that didn't solve it. I used my air compressor and blew out the usb port for 3-4 minutes at 120psi. No improvement. In a desperate attempt to keep my phone from draining I cut the plug off one of my car chargers and would stick it in the phone when it was in my pocket. This prevented the phone from waking up in charge mode but it only lasted a few days. I emailed wirefly Friday night to see if the phone was covered by factory warranty and haven't gotten a reply yet. Then I came across this thread. I did exactly what someone suggested and cut a q-tip down to make it thinner, soaked it in alcohol and wiped out the inside of the port. It was fixed! Then I plugged it into the charger in my room and the problem came back when I unplugged it! I cleaned it again. All better now for the 2-3 hours since I did it. I have since plugged it into a different charger and had no problems since unplugging it. I'm ing stoked!

I'm hoping to this does the trick for mine.

Are you sure this is a hardware issue?
Both I and my neighbour have started having this very issue with our Samsung phones (mine is a Galaxy, his isn't). Couldn't it be a software issue?

I just had this problem. Would say charging when it wasn't charging, would say charging while plugged in, but it wouldn't be charging.
I just used a toothpick to wipe out the dust and some dust off to spray it out. Problem solved.
