Nexus imprint unlock

I'm not a nexus imprint user. In fact, I don't even use a secure lockscreen - just the swipe method. I wish there was a way to use the fingerprint reader to turn on and unlock the device for users that just use the swipe unlock. I really dislike the inconvenient power button as my only means to turn it on since we don't have double-tap to wake.

Anyone else of the same opinion?

Nexus Imprint will unlock the phone while the screen is off.

What I'm getting at is I wish there was a way to use it just as a power button even when the user chooses not to use pattern, pin or password protection. I don't want to use it for security, just a second power button that would go straight to the home screen even if I choose not to secure my phone.

What the OP is getting at is that you can't set Imprint up without having a Pin/Password or Pattern Set and if you set it up and then change lockscreen method from Android Settings to Swipe or None, Marshmallow will delete the fingerprints and disable Imprint.

There is a workaround using the Secure Settings app from the Playstore.

1) Start with Swipe or None as your lock screen.
2) Use Secure Settings to Set a PIN or Password.
3) Set up Imprint.
4) Use Secure Settings to Disable PIN/Password.
5) Done - you have Imprint working with with either Swipe or no lock screen security depending on what you started with in 1).

It took me a while, but I got it after following neu smurph's directions. Thank you!!!
That's a cool app - I set widgets to turn to pin code security on or off with one tap. It also solved the incompatibility I was having between gravity screen and Nexus imprint. I'm sure there's LOTS more you can do with it. What do you use it for, smurph?

I use it as an add-on to a automation app - MacroDroid - to control when I've got a secure lock screen or not based on connection to home wifi and car bluetooth. I'm planning getting some NFC tags to I can use my (non-smart) watch to unlock the phone when it's on my desk at work without having to pick it up to use Imprint.

I also use it for a double tap for screen off Macro that is compatible with Imprint. It can set screen timeout to 7 seconds. I combine that with a dark screen overlay to fake screen off until it goes off naturally.

It's a good app, but unfortunately no longer under development so slowly and surely it's features stop working with newer releases of Android.

This doesn't work for me. Can you go into more detail? Particularly, I don't understand how to do step 2. Do I do it through Tasker?
