As the title suggest I cant root my device, i tried Gingerbreak, put in a new SD card
followed the instruction installed the app on the phone ran it didn't restart after 10 mins, pulled battery after 15 mins and the device is not rooted. I then tried Superoneclick, when i ever press root it says not responding and gets stuck on waiting for device...Is there any other way to root this through a simple app?
Could it be that my bootloader is locked and if so how do i got about unlocking it.
My android version is 2.3.4 build number GRJ22

thanks for the help.

I found instructions for rooting N1 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 and it worked for me on 2.3.4. Root Nexus One with Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread | Chen Sun's blog

Some of the problems I faced when rooting 2.3.4 N1 and solutions are in this thread

Let me know if this works for you
Good Luck

Thanks, I just want to get this straight only way to root phone is either downgrade to 2.3.3 without unlocking bootloader or keep the 2.3.4 and unlock the bootloader. Is their going be an app for 2.3.4 where you can root it without unlocking bootloader? I've had my phone for well over a year so I guess it doesn't matter if i unlock bootloader since warranty is finish?

I unlocked the bootloader because it was almost a year since I had bought the phone; warranty was going to expire anyway. But, I have heard there are ways to root the Nexus without unlocking the bootloader. If you do a search on Android & Windows Phone: Tablets, Apps, & ROMs @ xda-developers you should be able to find instructions on how to do that.

The instructions given on Chen Sun's blog don't require you to downgrade to 2.3.3. The method works for both 2.3.3 and 2.3.4. It does require an unlocked bootloader, though.

Cheers

Just fastboot oem unlock with adb, fastboot flashback recovery and flash superuser.

Will work with anything.

I've rooted an AT&T and T-Mobile model each this way. It was dead simple. Don't both with the other methods.

Same method as the one on Chen Sun's blog. It is more of a step-by-step guide for the same thing, which was what I needed since I was a noob.

When I try to unlock Bootloader i get an error on my N1 screen that read tells me there's "no image or wrong image". It flashes on the screen for a split second in about 4 rows on the upper left and then disappears. Also, on my computer, in the cmd prompt, after I enter the fastboot command listed in the instructions it just gets hung up on "<waiting for device>" PLEASE HELP!!! I'm about to throw the damn thing against the wall.

What did you do before you got this message? have you done or tried anything else before trying to unlock the bootloader?
Are you able to boot into the OS?
and when you boot in, is there an unlocked lock at the bottom beneath the X that shows up in the splash screen?

I was trying to follow the instructions that were outlined in Chen Sun's blog but can't get anywhere. At the command promt, after I do all of the fastboot-windows oem crap the command window just sits at “”.
on the phone, when i get to “bootloader” i can not get to the recovery list option for a few seconds. And, before then, I get this error message that flashes for just a quick second with some nonsense about the no image and/or wrong image. Then when I do get to the a point where i can click on “recovery” it gives me the triangle with the explamation point.

I think you need to install the drivers for the phone manually if fastboot is not recognizing the device. If you have the Android SDK you should be able to find the drivers in Android-SDK\extras\google\usb_driver. You have to go to device manager in the Control Panel (if you are using Windows) and look for something that identifies the Nexus One. It should be listed either as Nexus One or Android phone. Click on properties and install the driver by navigating to the folder above. This should fix the fastboot problem.

You need to install one of the custom recoveries like Amon_RA. The android with the triangle is the stock recovery. Try to revert back to stock using the instructions in this thread. http://forum.androidcentral.com/goo...6-please-help-unlocked-nexus-one-stuck-x.html

Cheers

At the time if installing Gingerbreak...first and most important that you should put the APK file at the right place...your place may be wrong that is why are facing such type of problem ..... you should read all the instruction carefully...and SD card should inserted...
