Nexus S 3G/4G Switching

Want to identify is this is normal behavior and if so is there a fix or app that can help.

Basically I'd like to leave my 4G radio on while driving listening to tunein off the net. Invariably I will drive into pockets of uncovered wimax areas and the device will switch back to 3G...but when I get back to a 4G area, it will not switch back without a manual flip.

Very annoying as I dip in and out of coverage areas. FFS Brooklyn Wimax!!! Grrrrr

Its the scan frequency, not sure how to manually override it but the more frequently it scans, the bigger the battery drain. I have the same issue but its not too bad. Just toggle on/off on the power control drawer, super easy
