Ok I think that Gingerbread and the Nexus S will be announced together. I know that's nothing new a bunch of you already think or know that. I think it will be announced possibly on Cyber Monday and start rolling out on devices starting in December. I think the Nexus S will be available Mid-December. I have a HTC Hero on Alltel. AT&T bought Alltel in my area and I have to get a new device. I'm getting the HTC Aria and going to upgrade to a new device. So should I buy the Nexus S for full price and try to use it on AT&T? (I don't care how much it will cost I know it's a lot but I can afford it.) Or should I change to T-Mobile? What should I do? Should I wait for something to come to AT&T?

Gingerbread and AT&T

The Nexus S might well come out with a model built for AT&T 3G service, but the story is that the phone--at least at first--will be for T-mobile.

Is it worth switching? I can't answer that for you, though I will say I am a very happy T-mobile customer.

Personally, I am more interested in the LG Star seen last week a due to arrive in Q1 of next year. It has the features of the Nexus S but the look of an HTC phone (I just can't warm to the Samsung Galaxy series look and feel). It also has HSPA+, which the Nexus S (at least in current rumors) doesn't feature.

If you switch to T-mobile, you can grab the MT4G or the G2 and they will both (hopefully) get 2.3 also, G2 is not real AOSP though, there IS htc stuff in there you just cant see it so you wont be getting updates from google on that or the MT4G obviously.

So to me the only advantage of getting the Nexus S is updates from google, which doesnt bother me and shouldnt bother you because Cyanogen is readily available anyways.

So you can only gain by switching to T-mobile: HSPA+, better network, cheaper phone, and no need to fret about samsung junk ;)

... Or switch up to sprint/verizon, cant hurt. I cant see a reason to stay with ATT's bogged down network, they are really horrible man.

U should wait for the AT&T version, that's IF they come out with an AT&T version. Because most likely u wont get 3g service on the tmobile's nexus S from AT&T network. As for changing carriers, you should ask ppl in your city with tmobile service and see what other people think about it. Then you can decide from there. I dont want you to jump over to tmobile and not even have 3g like Phil...lol.

I think T-Mobile is great so I am getting mine on there, however of this really is a Nexus device then I think they will make a CDMA version(Sprint, Verizon) and an AT&T version. Or maybe this could be a global device which just each device being available for each carrier actually allowing them to work on virtually any network(which would be smart for Samsung) as of now though it looks like it might get T-Mobile first, which I am thankful for :)

Personally, I think they will prolly go with the first option you wrote. But if we will actually see this product out there for other carrier is a different story. Seriously, I think AT&T need this device the most (bias cuz im stuck on AT&T). The only high end Android they have IMO is the Captivate which have it's own share of problems and issues. Most of the other devices on this carrier are either mid-end or stuck on ancient os versions.

The carriers would definitely stop them putting out one phone that functions on four networks. At the very least the CDMA phones would not work on US GSM if they had GSM receivers.

This should technically be possible... to have a CDMA phone that is a world phone but won't work on US GSM. HTC's Touch Pro2 on Sprint is exactly like that... that's actually what I'm hoping for to be honest. World phone!
