Nexus S Wifi Fix?

Hello everyone I don't post here much but I need some help so here we go. I'm currently in Iraq and am trying to hook up to the wifi network here my iPhone can, but I just got the Nexus S because it is unlocked and am trying to do the same but it won't seem to work. After doing a little research I see that this is a very well known problem, but I haven't seen anything on a fix for the problem. Is there anything I can do to get my wifi working properly. maybe downgrading the OS or something any answers?
