I think the night mode should come on automatically when there is no light detected. That would be so much easier.

That is my 16 yr old rescue Yorkie. His given name is Snuggles, but as you can see, he is a Hot Raggedy Mess (HRM).
He was having a restless night, so when he FINALLY settled down, I took the picture.
