Nightmare trying to activate this phone

I received this phone a few days ago and today the prepaid microsim activation card arrived from T-Mobile. I installed the card and went to the T-Mobile site to activate it. At first I was able to get to the payment method but couldn't get past that point. I don't remember but some error message about automatic payment setup or something. So I googled around and one suggestion was to try a different browser. I was using firefox and decided to try the activation on IE. When I try to start the activation process over every time I enter the activation code (the one on the pamphlet that came with the card) I keep getting an error message "Oops this isn't a valid activation code...." even though I keep entering the number as it appears over and over again.
Can anyone please offer any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Did you get to the point of entering a phone number to port over or getting an assigned number? If so, go to T-Mobile.com and try creating a user account (top right corner of home page).

An update. I did get an email from T-Mobile confirming that the account has been activated. There was also the message that it may take up to 24 hours to process the transfer request of my old number. I'm assuming that I would have to wait until the transfer goes through before I can procedure with the funding method?

Are you talking pre or post paid?

With my post paid biz account, the damn payment page kept saying down for maintenance for over 3 weeks! And then suddenly as my due date approached within days, the payment page started working. I then found out that my autopay (easypay) set up will take care of the first month (which the guy from tmo wrongly said it wouldn't and I would have to pay the first month separately.)

Thanks to those who have responded. It's been more than 24 hours and still haven't received a text from TM like they said in the email they would send me when the transfer was complete. I'm trying to port my current number over from Virgin Mobile and after searching around discovered others were having the same issue. It appears the problem is on VM's end.
@N4Newbie, I did try to create an account, but since my number hasn't been transferred over to TM yet I'm getting a message saying the number is not recognized as a TMobile number.
@minnemike, I'm not sure what you mean by pre vs post paid. I'm plannning on paying with a credit card and having them bill me automatically every month like I currently do with Virgin Mobile.

Ok, everything is working fine now. Woke up this morning, turned on the phone and found the text message alerting me that the number had been successfully transferred. Was able to go on to the site and create an account and set up a payment method.
