FYI..from emailing Gamestop's web site CS folks to confirm:

So I went to cancel it at the local store today. The employee said they've gotten emails from corporate that said they would get the $25 credit...talk about confusion galore :-P

Has anyone confirmed w/ Staples if they'll have the $25 credit? If they have it, I'd presume everyone else should get it too including B&H orders...

Dear Ken,

Thank you for contacting GameStop.com.

Unfortunately Gamestop is not offering the $25 credit for Google Play.

Gamestop is not offering the $25 credit for the Play store, Google is. The Gamestop employee in India who answered your email must not have understood the question.

I called my local gamestop where I pre ordered and they said anyone who preorders will get the credit

Gamestop is a ripoff they open games and take out any codes and tell u u have to order the premium or what ever more expensive game to get those codes. Crooks! Plus the people they hire have no game experience ifeel sorry for anyone who orders anything from them

If Gamestop offered 25$ credit for each device, they would surely not make much money on the tablets.

Again, restating the obvious. Gamestop themselves are not supplying the $25 credit. You actually get the $25 when you activate the Nexus 7.

No surprise to me that they aren't giving that offer. I expect nothing less from Game Stop being the crooks they are. I've worked there for a holiday season and had many many friends work there. The company is built on greed, distrust, intimidation and trickery. Thank God I've worked for better retail stores than Game Stop.

A lot of people online are reporting that you only get the credit if you order through Google. That is wrong as far as I can tell. I'm not in the know but my understanding from reading carefully is what Quin said above, the credit is when you activate the device with a Gmail / Google account. Doesn't matter how you get it as long as you do.

Gamestop assured me I'd get the 25 dollars. The guys name was actually Ebbo? Sounds fake to me.

Let's not spread more dis-information. Internet rumors are how WW2 got started. If you don't KNOW they aren't offering the credit say so. I don't KNOW that they are as I haven't gotten my device. I'm fairly sure they are (well Google is to be accurate) however.

And I am surprised you can't read 2 previous posts I said on this matter. If you pre-order the device from Gamestop, Staples or Best Buy you still get the $25 credit. Because as soon as you activate your device and access the Play Store on the device the credit activates.

Correct. Like it has been stated multiple times in this thread, THIS IS AN OFFER FROM GOOGLE. Your credit will be on your account after activation REGARDLESS of your purchase location, be it Google, staples, GameStop, etc.

This is the official press release from game stophttp://www.androidcentral.com/gamestop-carry-nexus-7-well-starts-accepting-preorders

Well how about the free content then? And have what people been saying regarding only preorders ordered on the 29th get that content?

User opens thread about Gamestop.

People go crazy and call Gamestop evil.

Typical.

They're offering the $25 Google Play credit. The person who you contacted through support obviously had no idea about the tablet. Google themselves have proclaimed that pre-ordering from Gamestop will nab you the $25 credit.

I think the whole fiasco can partly be blamed on Google. The way they're going about the release of this thing is really confusing.

Exactly, if we don't get it people can call out Gamestop from their press release and I'm sure they'll fix it somehow. At least I know my local store will

i have no idea what store you have gone to, but ive never even heard of this ever before and during my time working there. the only games that get opened are the display copies and the codes inside are not in the box cause the general public are shady enough to take anything in the box thats on display or just flat out take the box.

Gamestop Intentionally Removes Onlive Deus Ex Onlive Coupons from PC Copies

I believe this is what they were talking about. Despite Gamestop being a real "class act" most of the time, like I stated before they are not the ones giving the $25 credit. You get the credit, from Google, once you activate the device.

Lol you get it from Google, not gamestop. No matter where you get it from you get it, but from Google. Not gamestop. Get your facts straight.

ok...I'm blind. Can someone quote the section of the press release that says it's included? I searched for "$25" and "credit" w/ the web browser and saw nothing.
And it's not mentioned on the Details page here: Google ™ Nexus 7 16 GB from (Pre-Order Only) for Android | GameStop which is why I emailed them in the first place.

And FWIW, I added a comment to the Gamestop page that said I was told by the web site's CS (quoted that message I posted) that the credit was not included, but the comment magically disappeared.
And I gave them multiple changes to correct me. I told them it was confusing because one of the comments on their web site said it was included. I told them I was cancelling it because it wasn't and asked them to cancel my preorder (they told me to go to the store).

At least Staples' web site mentions it so I'll just preorder from them or just get it from B&H.

p.s., the specific question I emailed them was "Question on the Nexus 7 preorder: does it include the $25 Google Play credit? "
I thought it was a fairly clear/direct question. It didn't say "will gamestop give me the credit". They should have clarified w/ Google if it's part of a Google account thing, so I agree Google should be clarifying this as well.

Anyways, it's a PSA. If anyone has preordered it at Gamestop, I'd ask for written clarification...

Just stop, we have told you several times how you get the credit. Gamestop is correct in telling you they give you no such credit because Google does when you activate the damn thing. So stop it unless you are purposely trying to cause a flame war against GameStop.
