No background data after latest minor update

This has been frustrating me. I got the last minor update from Sprint (18mb, added the McAfee app) last week and ever since I have no background data on 3G. WiFi is fine, 3G is a no go. I have checked all settings, reset the network settings, factory reset the phone and nothing helps. Sprint is no help of course, they don't even seem to understand what background data means. I get no push notifications, if I am installing an app from the Play Store, I have to leave the Play Store app open or it stops downloading. I guess I will have to push for a replacement device, but I don't understand what this update did to cause this.

Just to be sure--when you say you've checked all settings, that includes Settings>Data Usage, correct?

Can you disable McAfee? I've seen that cause problems before.

Yes, I went through the data usage and the individual app settings as well, all did not have "restrict background data" checked.
McAfee does not appear to be running and i have cleared the data but it cannot be disabled without rooting. I may have to try that route.

Try Safe Mode, to narrow it down to a 3rd party app or a system app: https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-11934. I know you already tried a factory reset, but sometimes apps can automatically reinstall right after you finish the Setup Wizard again.
