I know that only Droid x has the blockbuster app but does anyone know if the HTC evo will get anything like it to be able to buy or rent movies on your evo?

are they still in business?

yes, and as a PT Blockbuster employee I think they need to spend more time working on things to save their business then worrying about stupid Iphone Apps and making apps for Droid Phones now.

The one that used to be open near me never had anything new in stock. When a new release came out there were only very few copies available. Maybe they can work on that? Wasn't it Blockbuster that allowed you to swap out a movie at the store even if you had one mailed to you?

App would be cool, according to the commercial you should be able to stream movies to your phone. But, with that said i much rather have netflix only because i already have a subscription to stream w/ them.

The only thing good blockbuster has going for them is they are getting contracts to release new movies quicker than netflix or redbox, so some movies they have weeks in advance before any competitor has it, but i rather either pay $1 and wait for it to come out on redbox or wait for netflix to get it and i'll just mail it to myself if it's not on streaming.

I would like to see a blockbuster application for my EVO, but I wonder how much use I would get out if it. I have a few movies on my EVO now, and I haven't watched any if them. There isn't that much free time when I'm on the go to watch full length movies.

I managed blockbuster for a few years, the company is dying extremely rapidly.

Thank netflix, high speed internet, and torrents.

Then video games went up and we got gamefly to cover that..

So now when you walk into blockbuster its nothing but posters, popcorn, magazines, soda, movie props because they cant generate any revenue from rentals anymore.

If any of you 70s and 80s children remember how music stores were in the 80s and early 90s it would be wall to wall vinyl/tapes/cds.. Now you go into a music store and it looks like a flea market with all the **** they have to sell to even break even.

Internet killed retail for those fields.

And now they have tried to stave off the inevitable by strong-arming the studios by saying "If you force us into a 28 day window, we won't give you prime shelf space" which I can't picture lasting since BB doesn't have nearly the pull it once did (frankly I thought it was ballsy of them in the first place and was surprised the studios agreed seeing as how they want the 28 day window to maximize sales which are declining).

idk if they are strong-arming, i mean they are paying extra money to get those movies first. it's not like the studios aren't trying to make profit.. who ever bids highest will get them first.

but you are right that blockbuster dropped the ball, netflix didn't just show up over night, they had this ball rolling for long time. But, i believe more so that redbox is the one stabbing them w/ a knife slowly in agonizing pain. lol There are about 5 redbox for every 1 blockbuster in the area.

I dont recall seeing an HDMI output on the Droid X. So why go with a device that you can ONLY watch a movie on the small screen and not with a device that you can watch on a small screen OR send to your flat screen at home?
I have been waiting and waitng for Blockbuster to come out with an app so i can stream movies on my device and watch them at home. Now that i see that they are making me wait so they can have exclusive rights to a phone with NO HDMI output i will gladly jump ship to NetFlix as soon as they come out with an app that will stream movies.
I just dont see the logic in Blockbuster making that app exclusive to the Droid X phone.

Anyways, I picture BB (sometime this year) announcing the closure of all their retail stores (essentially making the online service worthless unless they manage to get enough distribution centers to eliminate the 2 or 3 days shipping times they have in many areas) and then just focusing on the kiosks for awhile. I think the kiosks will probably save them (at least for awhile) as a company, but not in the long-run. They have too much debt and hemorrhage money every quarter, and in a really bad sign, are de-listing from the NYSE. Can't see them sticking it out long term.

Pretty much all the Blockbusters around me already closed down.

Just checked the Verizon website, the Droid X has HDMI output. Lower left side of the case just below the micro USB port.

But since I've got an EVO, the Blockbuster plan is a non starter for me. If in a month or so they roll out an Android app for everyone I'll take a look, but until then my money stays in my pocket.

I see it more as choice. Imagine having a 7hr flight to Europe and you just open a movie that you had downloading. Sweet!

Don't you think this is a good way to save the business? I love that it's easy to download a movie directly onto my phone without going through the download on my computer, then converting, then uploading to Evo...

That being said... the blockbuster app SUCKS. So I doubt it will really be doing any saving.
