I'm trying to clear my partition cache in recovery mode but my phone doesn't let me get there.

I have the phone off and I reboot with volume down and power button.

Then I get to the screen where I can start, recovery mode, etc.

When I try to go into recovery mode it switches to a screen with the Android and a red triangle with the words "no command" at the bottom.

This happens every time. What am I doing wrong? Does my bootloader need to be unlocked to do this?

Thanks, got it figured out. Guess you can only clear cache partitions on every other Android device than a pixel.

How can I clean up all the junk left behind after each update?

You don't need to worry about that, Pixel and other phones that include seamless updates/dual A/B partitions don't have the cache partition anymore, so the option to wipe it is not available in the Recovery menu.
