No Gear VR for Note 5?

I can't see why Samsung would make a VR headset for each of their phones.

I agree. Does not make sense. But, this Gear VR is suppressed to be the first one that is not an "innovator" edition. It's supposed to be the first "consumer ready" version - got all/most of the kinks worked out.

I could see them making the next Gear VR more universal, to fit more than just one of their phones. They really need to do this to open up the market to many more people and not narrow it down to just a single phone again.

Maybe it will be a converged Oculus Rift (no more Gear VR requiring a phone for the display) and the new Oculus Rift will have the ability to just plug into your Samsung phone or any phone (via the connector) and your phone powers the Rift when you are mobile? With the added bonus of the Rift being able to be powered by your PC too.

THAT would be cool.

Work out what kinks? Would be nice if they did something with the rift. That would help them out.

Maybe "kinks" isn't the best word choice. I mean improvements to make it better and to fix some obvious "first version out of the gate" deficiencies such as:

1. Eliminate lens fogging.
- I have the Note 4 version and it can easily fog up unless you take steps to prevent or lessen the fogging such as playing in a cooler, air conditioned environment, sitting near a blowing fan, etc. I've heard this is much less of an issue with the S6 version.

2. Ability to comfortably wear eyeglasses while wearing the Gear VR.

3. Lenses that adjust focus independently of each other, to allow those with a different prescription for each eye to see clearly.

4. Lenses that adjust left and right independently to allow for narrow or wider set eyes (ie adults with more distance between their eyes vs children with less).

5. Reduced battery consumption & heat.
- Maybe this has more to do with the phone's capabilities rather than the Gear VR directly.

6. A more comfortable head strap that has more range of adjustment (ie fit small heads to big heads).

7. Wider field of view.
- It would help to have a more natural/wider field of view (closer to 180° vs the 96° that Gear VR has) so you have to do less head movement side to side and up and down. You could more easily move your eyes around as you naturally do all the time to see things.

8. Universal, to work with more phones, not just the select few (Note 4, S6, S6 Edge).

Even with all these, I'm very happy with my Note 4 Gear VR. It's a lot of fun to play VR games.

As you probably know, dt81, once you play VR games you really don't want to play flat 2D or even flat 3D games again. There's just no comparison.

I have s6 version so did see some points fixed and do see some points you have do make sense but I would also add few software improvements like;

1-picture in picture passthrough mode (to keep eye on what's going on around you)
2-Ability to stop sensors when watching movies (when in car or plane screen can move when turning)
3-Content, Content. Roller coaster already, pay to watch full concerts, plays, sports games, shows, etc
4-more content sorting options (new to old, by name, by games, etc)
5-Private mode content available when unlocked
6-you can download some apps when not connected but then some apps have more content to download and only when plugged in to gear vr
7-Oculus app setting wifi only
8-Why do we have to re-click warnings when switching from one content to other??

100% agree. I also have s6 gear vr. Those updates would be great. The hardware itself is fine imo. Just tweak the app and content. Also how could there be no roller coster? Lol

I hate having to download much longer content when it's plugged in. I just take the headset off and cover the sensor with a cloth to keep the screen on while it's download.

Lol. Me too. I feel like an *** sitting there waiting for the download. Maybe it's the price we pay for .."developers addition " move it along. It's just UI
