Maybe "kinks" isn't the best word choice. I mean improvements to make it better and to fix some obvious "first version out of the gate" deficiencies such as:
1. Eliminate lens fogging.
- I have the Note 4 version and it can easily fog up unless you take steps to prevent or lessen the fogging such as playing in a cooler, air conditioned environment, sitting near a blowing fan, etc. I've heard this is much less of an issue with the S6 version.
2. Ability to comfortably wear eyeglasses while wearing the Gear VR.
3. Lenses that adjust focus independently of each other, to allow those with a different prescription for each eye to see clearly.
4. Lenses that adjust left and right independently to allow for narrow or wider set eyes (ie adults with more distance between their eyes vs children with less).
5. Reduced battery consumption & heat.
- Maybe this has more to do with the phone's capabilities rather than the Gear VR directly.
6. A more comfortable head strap that has more range of adjustment (ie fit small heads to big heads).
7. Wider field of view.
- It would help to have a more natural/wider field of view (closer to 180° vs the 96° that Gear VR has) so you have to do less head movement side to side and up and down. You could more easily move your eyes around as you naturally do all the time to see things.
8. Universal, to work with more phones, not just the select few (Note 4, S6, S6 Edge).
Even with all these, I'm very happy with my Note 4 Gear VR. It's a lot of fun to play VR games.
As you probably know, dt81, once you play VR games you really don't want to play flat 2D or even flat 3D games again. There's just no comparison.
