I was taking a look at my nephew's Acer Iconia Tab A500 (2nd Generation) and it still has OS 3.2.1 on it. When I checked for any updates that might not have been downloaded yet, it said that the system was up to date. Hasn't ICS been rolled out yet for this tablet? I thought that it had. What's up with this? I've got an Iconia A100 and it has the ICS update on it already. I've had it for a couple of months and love how it works.

Just curious about this.

It has. You may want to have your nephew update an Acer update app via the play store. I remember updating that app prior to installing the ICS update. I do not recall the exact name of the app and I no longer am using the stock rom to check. Hope this helps.

Oh, bless your hearts! Thank you very much for the information. The next time he comes over with his tablet, I'll do this so I can get his updated to ICS. I think he would absolutely love it on his tablet.:D

You're welcome. I sure hope it work. But it is certain that if the tablet doesn't have this app installed first, it won't update.

It's weird that Acer didn't publicize this app more widely--I only found it one day when I was bored and searched on Google Play for "Acer." Still, Acer deserves a lot of praise for actually sticking with their product and updating it to the latest OS. The same cannot be said for, say, Toshiba, which has not updated the Thrive tablets to ICS, and probably won't ever.

Yes, I found the App and updated my Daughter's tablet. Works great. I have a Xoom 4g and got the ICS update for the Xoom a few weeks ago and it is great. I sure hope you are wrong on the Thrive. Toshiba keeps saying that it is coming. (My Son has a Thrive).

Just an update for everyone. I went into the Google Play app on his tablet and found that he already had that Acer Iconia Tab Update file on his tablet. It just needed to be updated. After I did that, I was able to upgrade his tablet to ICS with no problems whatsoever. He is now playing with it and absolutely loves the updates to his tablet's operating system.

I'm on the Gen 2 A500 and I still don't have ICS? Does it matter that mine is rooted?

Thanks

Only rooted, no. On a custom ROM, yes.

I may be wrong though...don't flame me if I am but I haven't gotten an OTA for years ;p

Edit: I did get an OTA when I took my A500 out of the box, a little over 1 year ago
