No Keyboard on Rooted Nook?

My nookcolor, version 1.1.0,rooted has no keyboard!

So any field that requires input doesn't bring up a keyboard. If I go into Settings, select Keyboard, it just goes right back to the Home screen. Every other item in Settings seems fine.

I installed Froyo on an SD card and used that some then got so many force closes I took it off my SD card.

I do have SlideIT Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Pro installed...

Any ideas on how to get a keyboard back with out going back to stock? Please!

UPDATE - a keyboard can be selected in the NookColor Tools app, somehow I had selected the Gingerbread keyboard! Choosing the "Multi-touch keyboard" fixed my problem

the problem with Gingerbread keyboard seems to be a permission issue. I manually changed the permission of Gingerbread.apk in /system/app to 777 and rebooted, it worked fine afterwards. But in my opinion, Multi touch keyboard is better than the Gingerbread keyboard.
