No Longer Able to Use Swipe to Unlock if Using Samsung Pay?

On my Note 8, I had no security to open my phone (just swiping) while using Iris Scan to secure Samsung Pay. I remember it was a little bit of a hassle to set it up this way, but that definitely was how it worked (i.e., it wasn't that I was always in a "Secure" location or anything).
This doesn't seem possible on Note 9--it's making me using a pattern (at the least) to unlock the phone. Is anyone else experiencing this or has anyone found a workaround?
thx, J

The iris scanner (and the fingerprint sensor) isn't very secure. A picture of you can trigger it. (Your fingerprint printed on flexible film can be used to trick the fingerprint sensor,) Evidently, Samsung is getting real about security. (Maybe they'll even start issuing monthly security updates some century.)

(Even facial rec isn't secure. Or voice unlock. Or location unlock if the phone gets stolen [the thief parks close enough to your house with the phone on his lap, covered by a paper map - as soon as the phone unlocks, he changes the lockscreen to None, then drives away].)

But, hey, if you want to give someone access to your money ...

Mine is set to have Samsung pay work with the fingerprint and it did require a four digit PIN. However I have my phone set up where it does not lock until it's been 10 minutes and LOL I don't think it ever goes 10 minutes without me doing something to it. It never leaves my side basically

I never have to worry about the 4-Digit pin though unless I'm doing some type of possible changes within the Samsung pay app itself maybe but I never have to use it for unlocking
