no missed callsm missed SMS displaying

I have exhausted everything I could find through Google. My old Moto X displayed the number of missed calls, and missed SMS messages on their respective ICONS. I cannot seem to find the spot to turn that on for the Z. Does anyone here know how to do that. I am using 6.0.1.

That's a function of the launcher - since the Z probably uses a different launcher than the X, that might be why. (If you switch to the paid version of Nova Launcher, you can have it back.) BTW, those numbers are called "badges" - just look for a launcher that does badging.

Nova + Tesla Unread add on does it.
The Google Now Launcher (which the Z comes with) does not.

The notification shade is more advanced and useful though.
