No network connection suddenly

I bought an Optimus off contract for my wife and I activated it this morning. I couldn't do the online ESN swap, it made me call in to have a rep do it. I had to do it by entering ##herMSL# and manually enter her MDN and MSID. Then I was told to call an 888 number and I heard a automated message saying the phone is now activated. And it was working fine, could make/recieve calls, mobile data worked, android market worked and I downloaded a few apps.

Then the phone sat on the coffee table for a couple of hours, and when my wife picked it up, it had lost all network connection. No calls could be made and mobile data didn't work either. I tried reprogramming the phone to no avail. Then I did a hard factory reset and that didn't fix it. Now with no network connection at all, I can't get past the white screen where sprint forces you to download an ID pack.

I notice the signal bars at the top of the screen seem to fluctuate now, goes from no bars to full bars slowly, then cycles again after a few minutes. There's no 3g/1x logo up there either, just the signal bars.

I find it weird that it happened all of a sudden. Any suggestions? Or am I out of luck?

I'd try pulling the battery and leaving it out for a few minutes. If that doesn't help, I hope you have insurance on it, because it has a high possibility of being some kind of hardware problem, although there is a *chance* that it could be a programming error or network issue that can be fixed.

Good luck!

yeah forgot to mention I already tried a battery pull, and multiple resets, power cycles, all with no results. The factory hard reset was the last resort and that's where I stand now.

The customer service rep that entered your ESN did not get it right. Call *2 back and have them re-activatethe the device. This exact same kind of problem has happened to me and my device acted exactly the same.

Thanks for the suggestion, but unfortunately I know that the lady did it correctly, because the phone was working for a while.

Anyhow, I took the phone to a sprint store, and they were not able to fix it either. After much discussion with the store reps, I was able to swap out the phone with a new one for a 35 dollar fee. Live and learn, I'm not gonna gamble on a random phone next time.
